    removing shrunk on gear

I remember that inlet manifold hotspot collapsing burnerman mentions too! Bloody things! Make sure the distributor spindle isn't worn leading to side to side movement and varying points gap. If I remember correctly that also shows up on a strobe timing light check as the notch on the crank...

    Ghostly door.

Thanks for your reply. It does seem to be fractionally out of true but it really is a tiny amount. I discovered that if I leave the door open a little more fully it stays open. It obviously suits the ghost better that way!

    Ghostly door.

I'm hoping this is just a question for chippies and not underpinners (and certainly not undertakers!) I have a bedroom door that has started closing by itself. It doesn't do it in normal swing shut sort of way but a more subtle, turn your back and it's closed next time you go past sort of way...

    BBA Reman

T5 Transporter ABS pumps do fail (usually electrically). They usually get sent back as beyond repair if you try that route. People are asking big money on Ebay for rusty old ones that I wouldn't touch with a barge pole! You can buy the electrical (ECU) section separately but it's still £500...

    Loose shower enclosure/Gorilla tape..

It's a two panel corner shower and quite old (Year 2000 ish) Matki. The glass door was catching on closing and I discovered that although the aluminium upright side was screwed firmly to the wall the next part in was able to pull out a bit at the top distorting the frame enough to stop the...

+ 2 And worth getting it checked for a worn/broken engine stabilizer bar too.

    Honda jazz 2011 1.4 Service

I did one of those 8 plug Jazzes about a year ago. I don't remember having to take the wiper motor off. Perhaps mine was a different model. It's quite common to have to take the inlet manifold off to change spark plugs these days though.

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

That's so true for me too. I'm at the heroic stage now! Or is euphoric? I know I'm only really tinkering at the margins but it does feel really good when you bring something back to life. I'm still on a high from fixing my completely dead combi oven a few months ago (sad or what!) We...

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

Haha! I'm now officially 2-1 up on the appliances! Fitted the new starter in a few minutes and the compressor started straight away. After a couple of hours the freezer was already at -17c. Thanks again.

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

That was a good idea. Mind you, if this does fix mine I'm not holding out much hope of this fridge making old bones. I liked the fact that the starter looks a bit burnt and the meter seemed to agree. I've even paid an outrageous £8.50 for next day delivery. :ROFLMAO: But pride comes before a...

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

Well I am beginning to feel more hopeful! I took the relay out and found a very slight burn mark on the outside. I checked resistance across the pins for the motor and there was no continuity whichever pair I tested. With me not knowing which were the correct start and run winding connectors...

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

Thanks again John, I think I will take that unit off today and see if I can test it with a meter or at least see if I can see any burnt terminals or corrosion on it. I see online there are some interesting (but lethal looking) ways of bypassing it as a test, but I won't be risking stuff like...

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

Back again! I can't find the equivalent fridge freezer to replace ours. So I thought I'd switch it on again just in case it came back to life. It didn't of course but I thought I'd have one last go. Although the small fan in the freezer runs when the door is shut I don't hear the compressor...

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

Well I'm afraid it's 2-1 to the appliances now! Thanks anyway though, it was worth a try. :-)

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

Thanks for your quick response John. I leapt out of bed at about midnight to go and unplug it and open the doors when I read your reply! It's got to be worth a try. I wonder if leaving it unopened for 2.5 weeks while I was away made it colder than it usually would be and that's what...

    Whirlpool Fridge/Freezer dead?

I just arrived back from holiday to find my freezer full of not quite frozen food. The fridge part didn't seem too good either. I emptied both parts and left it for the day turned up but it's actually warm (16c) in both the fridge and freezer now. It's a 5 year old Whirlpool arc 4324...

    Indesit IDL 40 dishwasher problem

Ordered the new one. It's still messing around and I have a full house at Christmas. One thing I should have twigged from yardie's original post is that it's more likely to be a mainboard problem rather than any individual sensor because the dishwasher is reluctant to reset using the the...

    Indesit IDL 40 dishwasher problem

Ah, I get it. Well it's still working at the moment but it is on notice. One more failure and it gets turned in a car bonnet or whatever!

    Indesit IDL 40 dishwasher problem

Thanks for your reply yardie. (y) My dishwasher is old and I got fed up with replacing the cracking handles and other bits so it was on death row unless I could fix it cheaply. I bought the cheapest pressure sensor I could find...

    Indesit IDL 40 dishwasher problem

I'm in the same boat with my old dishwasher as I was with with my old combination oven which I fixed recently thanks to the help I received here. (y) It must be 8 or 9 years old but like the oven it's been working perfectly and I hate chucking stuff away that I could fix. The fault is that it...
