Quick advice ... pipe size & type for pond filter ... ?

No trees anywhere near it ... plus it lies under the north elevation of our house ... only a tiny bit of late afternoon sun, if any at all. So anyway - did put two x 25mm pipes under the steps which are all done ... but I seriously doubt we will be using them! Thanks again for your black dye...

Quick advice ... pipe size & type for pond filter ... ?

r896neo ... THANK YOU! Black Dyofix is something I had never heard of and sounds absolutely perfect. Had some 25mm pipe kicking around, so will make provision just in case, but it does increasingly sound like we will get away without the hassle of electric gubbins ...

Quick advice ... pipe size & type for pond filter ... ?

Yes .. pipes to be hidden from view. Slight worry to see so many pond diagrams with the pipes appearing from the very bottom ... not an option for us now that the concrete base and concrete block walls are already in place. Anyway ... now even questioning whether we need filter/pump at...

Quick advice ... pipe size & type for pond filter ... ?

Thanks ... but I love this board ... so helpful + I have all the pictures etc. in one place. Almost figuring this one out myself .... it appears that most pump/filter combinations have stepped inlets & outlets ... so by looking at a random selection it seems we will be ok if we install 2 x...

Quick advice ... pipe size & type for pond filter ... ?

Sorry - very last minute, but my builders are installing final steps up to the house tomorrow, and I've got to install pipework to enable the pond next to the steps to be filtered properly. As in picture below ... pond will be one side of steps, filter the other. I'm guessing the pipes will...

How to create nice clean cut outs?

I shall give all those a go ... especially using a fence ... stupidly never really crossed my mind. One final jigsaw question ... on mine there is a 4 level setting which the pictures seem to imply alters the amount the blade swings forwards and backwards ... any advice on what settings are...

How to create nice clean cut outs?

A general question this ... just wondering how does one best make nice clean cut outs in wood? eg. if I want to make a 100mm x 50mm aperture in a piece of 25mm mdf, at the moment I drill out the four corners and then use a jigsaw which invariably ends up looking a bit shabby. Not only do the...

How much for new sash windows?

My dodgy fly-by-night, no questions asked windows came in at £885 per window ... delivered, double glazed primed & painted. My windows averaged 2.4 square metres in area, so for your size (1.5 sq m), that would equate to £550 all done and ready to fit. These were sprung balanced, but cord &...

How much for new sash windows?

Don't be piqued! Don't feel threatened! Should I feel ashamed of my German car? Step up & promote yourself ... ie. compete ... win us back! To be perfectly honest, the level of service I got from the Polish company was fantastic. Every email answered in a timely fashion, and nothing...

How much for new sash windows?

I disagree! Don't be scared of getting quotes from further afield ... e.g. Poland. We ordered up 30+ sash windows from that part of the world, and a year on, we couldn't be happier.

Ok to edge an MDF cabinet bifold door?

Great stuff ... thanks J&K ... a poplar torsion box it shall be ... (p.s. as per title, these doors are for a cabinet ... not regular doors ... so 25-30mm is going to look very solid)

Ok to edge an MDF cabinet bifold door?

Thanks J+K ... ... yes, MR MDF would be better edgewise, but even heavier ... What is the lightest DIY method of creating a 30mm x 825mm x 370mm door does anyone know of? No need to suggest balsa wood etc. ....

Ok to edge an MDF cabinet bifold door?

Yup ... I know ... 25mm MDF is bloody heavy ... but what's the choice? No one seems to sell blockboard anymore. Perhaps I should just make up a hollow version ... e.g. pine frame, with plywood skin ... There are two of these doors, working as a bi fold, to span a 1650mm x 370mm opening ...

Ok to edge an MDF cabinet bifold door?

I was warned off creating a composite MDF/pine cabinet door on another thread ... but just wondering if any readers had created this kind of door with success? Basically a sheet of very solid MDF, edged with 6mm thick oak. The whole thing will be painted, and live in a pretty moisture free...
