Bausen engineered untreated oak flooring - blue patches!?

No ... and it would be a pretty weird way to set about promoting a company even if I was! Ok ... let's leave it. As I said, I'll post some b4/after pix once we're done, and we can see then how it works out.

Bausen engineered untreated oak flooring - blue patches!?

We haven't yet got our final stain & finish materials, so can't test yet ... but got to say that I'm satisfied that such a big company with such depth of experience in this area wouldn't just use blue/grey filler for a laugh! I'll post some before after pix once we're done anyway ...

Bausen engineered untreated oak flooring - blue patches!?

Ok ... just to update this in case anyone else comes across this wanting the answer ... the technical desk came back to reassure me that any oil or treatment that is put over this type of filler will immediately blend it with whatever finish is being applied. For some reason this way works the...

Bausen engineered untreated oak flooring - blue patches!?

Thanks Aron ... but got to admit ... find this very strange. Why use a such a crazy colour? Maybe it reacts differently when you treat it with the wax or oil? Still no answer from their corporate line. Bizarre.

Bausen engineered untreated oak flooring - blue patches!?

Hi We've just started laying nearly 40sq m of untreated oak flooring in our hall ... and discovered that most boards have small bluey/grey areas where the manufacturer (Bausen) seems to have used something to fill any cavities around knots etc. We were hoping to stain this floor to match a...

What machine tool to help me best?

Thanks Foxhole ... two very quick q's if you're still about ... 1. Chop saws (and table saws) seem to range from £100 to £1,000+ ... is there anything I'm going to really miss out on do you think for this kind of work if I buy in the £200/£250 range? 2. Power planers ... ok to buy a...

What machine tool to help me best?

Hi all Reaching the end of a major refurb project, and ending up with no money for a lot of interior joinery ... e.g. making up dressing room cupboards, library shelves, childrens bunk beds, loads of shelving etc. A lot of it is no more than Ikea type complexity, but just has to be made to...

Spotty discolouration to render ... west country problem!?

Actually ... no ... not rust. Had the head technician from the aggregates company come to site - turns out it's LIGNITE contamination in the sand - basically a very soft low-grade type of coal. Now apparently this won't come through a 3mm top coat of an acrylic render ... but if anyone knows...

Spotty discolouration to render ... west country problem!?

Thank you! Searched for pyrites in render, and have found other examples of this happening. Actually ... bizarrely ... looking at it again I see it was mentioned in a thread in which you ('roughcaster') participated 4 years ago! Apparently the best approach is to dab on a generic rust eater...

Spotty discolouration to render ... west country problem!?

Our nice, crisp newly rendered walls (straight off fresh blockwork) suddenly look (five days after completed) like they've been subject to a massacre. Loads of weeping brown/bronze spots everywhere. Render mix was cement, lime & plasterer's sand (1:1:6). Now only noticed this today, and...

Limestone ... agh! How to avoid colour change on sealing?!

Thanks Adam ... but can I just ask ... if honing doesn't change the colour very much, why then the very marked difference (as shown in the picture above) between the front and the back (and, for that matter, all 4 sides) of every single stone tile? We are pretty much committed to the stone we...

Limestone ... agh! How to avoid colour change on sealing?!

When you say '60 grit is quite rough for honing' ... I don't quite understand: at the moment I'm led to believe that it is the 'honing' that is causing this unwanted yellowish colour. By taking this 60 grit orbital machine to the stone, I'm hoping that we achieve a much lighter colour as a...

Limestone ... agh! How to avoid colour change on sealing?!

Thanks Adam. Ok ... am now assured that nothing is done to this stone before it leaves the stone shop. It is basically just polishing (and honing) that creates the finished colour! So actually by sanding it, we weren't removing any seal or top layer as such, we were just roughing it up and...

Limestone ... agh! How to avoid colour change on sealing?!

Was due to get guys in to lay 60sq m of honed limestone on Monday ... when we discover that it is MUCH yellower than we wanted. Basically I think we looked at a tumbled version of this limestone, liked the colour, but went with honed (without checking sample) because we prefered cleaner...
