Electric socket embedded in kitchen floor

Okay, okay. I get the message ... So the solution??? :? How about running the cable under the floor and up through a hole in the centre of the room, and attach it to a surface mounted socket on the back of the central console (or inside the cupboard) i.e. off the floor? If I...

Electric socket embedded in kitchen floor

Thanks Ban. I'll look into Bamboo flooring. Pipme - earlier in the post I mentioned I planned to protect it against spillages with an RCD. The socket will also be under a central console, so will be pretty inaccessible. Cheers.

    Cable routing

Ban, Thanks. The wiring regs also cover me for another problem. I want to put the FCU's for the hob & oven on the other side of a wall from the kitchen (in a utility room) so that they do not clutter the kitchen. The walls are less than 100mm thick, so I'm covered. Cheers.

Electric socket embedded in kitchen floor

Floor tiles - too cold & floor area too large for underfloor heating. Flooring - Bamboo! I'm not a panda! Concrete & DPC - conduit will be shallower than recessed floor box, though I'll look into how deep the box goes.

Cheers plugwash, that makes my wiring a bit easier.

    Cable routing

I read somewhere that all electrical cable routes in walls should be either vertical or horizontal from the socket they are serving. I also read that any horizontal cables should be close to the ceiling or close to the skirting, and not in the middle of the wall. Is this true, or can I run a...

    How to rate dimmers

When you say a 2 gang dimmer is rated 300w, is this 300w per dimmer switch i.e. the switch could support 2x300w circuits, or does this mean 2x150w circuits (or some combination that doesn't exceed 300w in total)?

    2 way switch Dimmers

Breezer, I like large cups of milky coffee! From what I've read I don't want to go near 2x2 dimmers, master slave etc, so I thought a normal switch & 1 dimmer would be easier (and lazier). I could survive with 1 dimmer only, but when I come into the room through the other door I...

Electric socket embedded in kitchen floor

It's concrete, so I'm reluctant to dig too deep down as I don't want to go through the damp proof course. I will cover the floor with wood laminate (thought it's not good for spills), or I might explore a plastic 'wood' floor like Karndean or Amtico. Either way I will cut out a square for...

    2 way switch Dimmers

Can I connect a two way dimmer with a 2 way light switch? In this case if I used the switch to turn the light off and on, the light would come on at the level at which the dimmer is set ... wouldn't it? :? I could then control the level of dimming from the main dimmer switch.

Electric socket embedded in kitchen floor

Thanks for the replies plugwash & ban, The socket would be under the unit (which is on legs so I could get access underneath to unplug the plug), so it shouldn't be a trip hazard. The centre unit is something like the following, yet 3 times the width: The socket would be underneath. I...

Electric socket embedded in kitchen floor

Folks, I'm about to turn a playroom in my house into a kitchen. I am planning a semi-free standing central console, and so I want to run a spur under the floor to the centre of the room off the main ring circuit, and then embed an electric socket in the floor underneath the console. I was...

    "solid" gravel path.

Self binding gravel is what you are looking for. I saw it in Richmond Park in South West London, but it is used in lots of park & grand house type locations. Thought it looked good so I've tried it at home. Laid a curved path about 15m long, by digging out a trench 15cm deep, put gravel...

    New Boiler Quandry

Only recently went for a Megaflow (or it's equivalent - an Ultrasteel pressurised 210l cylinder). We have two showers in the house, and one boiler driving them (rather than one pump per shower) We have about 9 bar mains pressure and so the showers are excellent. I don't know if a combi will...

    Bathroom Spot Lights

DLaing, I went for low voltage ones, each one with its own transformer. Felt safer with 12v rather than 240v. They are < 2.25m above the base of the shower (do a search on zone 1, 2 and 3 for bathrooms and you'll get some measurements about what kind of lights you can fit where e.g...

Wiring a siemens 7 day timer to underfloor heating

IR8Mat, I had a look at the Wickes stuff, but didn't go with it. Can't remember why but the more I use Wickes stuff, the more I run into problems. Tried to silicone seal a shower tray with their own brand stuff the other day and found it impossible to get a smooth finish. So I've gone back to...

Wiring a siemens 7 day timer to underfloor heating

IR8Mat, You didn't mention the thermostat on the original post. I have just fitted the very same thermostat backing plate as part of my undertile heating. The installation instruction for the backing plate are here: http://www.aubetech.com/english/manuels/TH132_a_f_af_LINE_ENG.pdf I have...

    Undertile heating floor tile adhesive

StickyP, Cheers for the reply. Too late. Already grouted (with a flexible grout), and that included the gaps around the edge. :( The floor tiles butt up against the wall tiles. So from what you are saying the floor will expand slightly when heated, so a flexible sealant at the edge will...

    MFI

Interesting chat... I went thru several cycles of kitchen quotes, starting with MFI. What p**sed me off most was their 'sale' prices, which in reality were just about acceptable for the stuff you were getting. We then had the 'extra 10% off' if you purchase by the end of the week discussion...
