What causes an immersion heater element to split? Sometimes in more than one place? Is it the water? or just wear and tear?

won't be gas at oyulet if gav valve isn't opening. If voltage at gas valve (240v)?? and resistance of coil ok, could be jammed armature.

does the burner light at all??

what controls your heating ? is it a wireless room thermostat? .....

did tje installer fit a smaller ball valve seating / orifice in the toilet?

sounds like it's trying toignite but can't, will be a gas related problem probably.

without seeing it is not easy to diagnose - some older boilers when the pump fails, and the system overheats, the thermocouple interrupter (overheat) trips the pilot. i suppose with no overheat device, and a circulation problem, the boiler stat will cycle on/off quickly/quicker and hence...

when you say the boiler goes out, does the pilot also go out ?

sorry I've just re-read it, gas safe engineers can notify new hot water cylinder installations through their website, but you don't have to be gas safe registered to fit one - but the install is a notifiable job to the local building auth.

Are you allowed to fit a new vented hot water cylinder, over 15L capacity withoit being gas safe registered?! I always thought you were, but on their website it says it is a notifiable job?!!

stopcock replaced as well :) added another new one after original as it was lead going in and didn't have much access/didn't want to disturb it. So froze pipe before and added new one. Stopcock in street, the hole thing was crammed with clay/mud, after getting out, stopcock seemed to turn but...

I used a pipe freezing kit (arctic spray) and all was good. Had a push fit isolation valve ready just incase !! Are those freemaster kits really good? What sort of jobs do they come in handy for and how much do they cost? Im guessing not for a diyer as more expensive?!!

The flow slows a little but still is very fast when other cold taps are open full bore. Are these freezing kits any good? I haven't used 1 before, and am not sure what to make of them. I was thinking, if I freeze it, cut the pipe, have a push fit service valve (closed) ready incase it...
