Rubbish bag 'tax' to encourage recycling

Where we used to live we had our rubbish collected fortnightly and in spite of our best efforts to wrap food waste to stop flies, in the summer months after 2 weeks the bin would reek and was usually home to a maggot infestation by this time. I complained to the council that bi-weekly...

    Water shortage

They are ok for someone on their own or even couples have said they are cheaper, but for a family of four with normal usage, we found it more expensive after we moved to a house with a meter. We don't waste much water and I don't see how we could cut our usage if the price goes up. We have to...

    Water shortage

Anyone think that this latest "drought" (in spite of above average rainfall for May) is just a ploy by the water companies to get us all on water meters? Also it said on BBC news this morning that one way of getting us to cut down on our usage of the precious stuff would be to increase the...

    world cup fever

What are we poor women supposed to do while the television viewing is monopolised by a load of boys kicking a football around? Bet it will interfere with the scheduling of more important progs like Corrie and Eastenders.

    indesit

We used to have an Indesit washing machine but it had so many faults and broke down so many times that we swapped it for a new Hotpoint. No problems so far. Can'tremember what the faults all mean but maybe at the back of the user's manual there will be a list of them or a number to ring at...

    Garage wall eyesore

Thanks guys but in that case will probably just leave it rather than do anything which may backfire at a later date then if it rots it's his problem not ours.

Can you identify this tree ?

Looks like an ornamental cherry to me but there are loads of different varieties. If it only blossoms in May/June then it probably is.

    Garage wall eyesore

Help! Our neighbour's garage wall forms part of the boundary in our back garden. It is getting a bit tatty in places so we want to paint it using the same colour as it was originally. Do we need to ask his permission to do this even though it would be doing him a favour?

    smelly toilet

WC seems to be in alignment with soil pipe and is in the same place as the previous WC was. Soil pipework viewed from outside seems to come out fairly horizontal from both WCs with a slight drop as they join the main downpipe. They both join at the same height either side of the downpipe.

    smelly toilet

The toilet in my ensuite (which is adjacent to the main bathroom and uses the same soil pipe and is ok) flushes ok but has an almighty stink. Sometimes a while after flushing a dark "residue" appears in the bottom of the pan. Have tried the quick flush method with many buckets of water - hot and...
