Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks I'll check them out. I'm guessing there isn't much to go wrong with these so the one with the longest warranty should probably win?

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks for the link KevPlumb. I've done a little bit of googling and there don't appear to be that many heat store manufacturers. I appreciate the suggestion.

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Hooray! Thanks ajstoneservices and all the other guys for a useful discussion. A simple solution and I understand it. That's just what I wanted. I'm off to have a cup of tea. My head hurts. :D

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks. I'm not sure what all these bits of kit are called as it's pretty new to me. I'm used to a simple combi doing everything on demand. Is a "Combination Thermal Store" effectively a special kind of hot water cylinder that I would keep in my airing cupboard? Would it be heated...

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

I don't want a gravity fed system. I want to lose the storage tank in the loft. I'd like mains pressure hot and cold water. (Or as close to it as possible) I'd like a hot water backup (in case the boiler breaks down on Christmas eve) I want the boiler to heat my radiators. Surely there...

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

This is what it says... In a vented system, heat is imparted to the incoming mains water by means of a secondary heat exchanger within the vessel. Water in the vessel is used rather like a battery for heat - a Thermal Store. The incoming mains water passes through it's heat exchanger within...

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

I thought so too, but the link that AJRobb posted to the gas appliance guide suggests otherwise...! Under the "Vented mains pressure system" table it states : No loft tanks - space saving

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

That link you posted seemed to indicate otherwise though... I can see how you would need it in a gravity fed system. But is it really necessary in a vented mains pressure system? I am well and truly confused now.

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks MickyG. Simple is good! At least simple enough for me to understand how it works... I had a look at the GasApplicanceGuide link that AJRobb(thank you) posted and it sounds like a vented mains pressure system is probably what I'm after. So in simpleton's terms I could get a system...

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I probably forgot to say that I'd like to get rid of the cold water storage tank in the loft. Does that change things at all? In an ideal world I'd like to lose the storage tank in the loft. Have mains pressure cold water to all the taps. Deliver as...

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks MickyG. We've had a combi before and were really pleased with it. We're now in a bigger house though, and I'd rather like to keep a cylinder in the airing cupboard. I also like the peace of mind of having hot water backup in case the boiler were to breakdown. What's the best way...

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Could you please explain why an unvented system be unsuitable with that flow rate? I'm not really sure how they work.

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

A 12l bucket took 45s to fill from the kitchen tap. So that works out at about 16l per minute. Is that any good?

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks D_Hailsham. 8) I had a look on their website and couldn't see anything about it... I'll take a closer look! Maybe an unvented system with a Viessmann boiler and new cylinder is the way to go!

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Thanks DoItAll. That's great news. Will the combi heat the hot water on demand like normal and then "push and replace", under the mains pressure, the hot water out of the cylinder? (I hope that makes sense. If not, could you please explain how the hot water would be delivered?)

Can I have a new combi boiler and keep my hot water cylinder

Hi Guys, Still deciding what to do in our "new to us" house... The boiler is a dog and needs replacing. Is it possible to have a new combi condensing boiler and retain a hot water cylinder in an airing cupboard? I'll probably replace the cylinder while I'm at it for a new Heatrae...

New Central Heating / Water System Options

Thanks NewGasInstaller. The only thing that attracted me to the glow worm kit was that it received "Best buy" from Which. I'll have a look at that boiler and cylinder that you recommended. Cheers, Blondebier

New Central Heating / Water System Options

Hi Guys, We've just moved to a new house and the boiler is 35 years old! This will need replacing soon and I am considering my options. It's a 4 bedroom house with a vented system, airing cupboard with hot water cylinder and water storage tank in the roof. Initially, I'd thought we could...

    Are maintenance contracts worth it?

Jokes aside, some plumbers do that and charge a fortune for it! Thanks for the check list - It'll prove useful ammo when I get quotes.

    Are maintenance contracts worth it?

No, but it's not a car. If it's a case of "it's still hanging on the wall - radiators are hot - warm water coming out of the taps - it's ok..." then I can do that. I'm quite a big fan of "If it ain't broke - don't fix it" I guess what I am trying to determine is what exactly are they going...
