    Boiler fix or replace advice

So I went for the Vaillant repair and care scheme as it was marginally more expensive than the fixed price repair and covers me for 6 months. Called yesterday morning and engineer was there today. He replaced a bunch of parts right off the bat - pcb, gas section, venturi, electrode. So can't...

    Boiler fix or replace advice

Can only speculate on that. The insurance outsourced it to a third party claims handler who outsourced it to a local firm. So could even be an issue at the local end. They might get paid their call out fee regardless and could be charging inflated prices for the parts in case it actually gets...

    Boiler fix or replace advice

As it was an engineer sent by insurance I did not get a copy of their report but I've been told it's to replace the pump, mass flow sensor and some cable.

    Downlight stuck, can't change bulb!

Update - 50% sucess. Pushed the bulb in and generous amount of wd40 sprayed in the crevices from the bottom and from the inside where the bulb sits. This managed to work on one of the fittings with a good hammer on a screwdriver wrapped with tape after a few days. Previous attempt without...

    Boiler fix or replace advice

Hi all, I have a 10 year old Valiant Ecotec 37kw system boiler with tank that's been causing some issues last couple of winters when it gets really cold. Latest was when we had the cold snap a couple of weeks ago, it stopped working randomly with some error messages. Managed to reset it but...

    Downlight stuck, can't change bulb!

Sorry hopefully this is clearer - the two lugs slot through this gap and twist into place. Good idea about kitchen gloves.

    Downlight stuck, can't change bulb!

I've been replacing bulbs in my downlights and some of them are siezed closed, will not turn to pop out. I had good luck with a squirt of wd40 in the gap for some of them but the last two are being stubborn bar stewards. Any ideas on how to loosen them open? Photo of one in case that helps...

Installing single gang in double knockout box

Interesting, with that mk won't have anywhere to readily connect the earth to? currently it's connected to the back of the switch. I came across the ebay one, but I wanted the single gang offset to one side to fit the aqara unit over the existing space. Will message them and see if they can...

Installing single gang in double knockout box

Many thanks all for your inputs. Yes the one I have does have horizontal screw fixings but would be too far to use. Yes this is the only one I could find as well. The issue with this is that the single box is centred and the Aquara unit has the back piece offset to the left. So unfortunately...

Installing single gang in double knockout box

I have a set of switches installed on a double knockout box. I am looking to replace it with one of these. Unfortunately while this would cover the area, it needs to be installed on a 1 gang box. Is there any converter I can use to fix this, without needing to rip out the existing backbox...

    Replacing Tado Wired thermostat

I am moving house and want to take my tado smart wired thermostat with me. (I have on of the old ones where I don't have to pay subs) It originally replaced a Honeywell T40 thermostat for a combi boiler, which was a three wire setup with earth. The current wiring is attached, with only COM and...

    What are these electric meters?

Could you please elaborate on what else might be there to consider from electrics point of view?

    What are these electric meters?

Many thanks. I was expecting some asbestos in the house, so it begins here! EV charging is a good point and will definitely need to future proof for that. I see the meters say 40amp max so I am assuming that is the limit of what comes to the house for car charging?

    What are these electric meters?

Saw a 'doer-upper' house yesterday and it had all of these electricity meters in the garage. Am I right that there are three meters and an economy 7 timer? Would it be possible/recommended to combine these into one single smart meter? Would the electricity company charge for that? Would much...
