am I being unreasonable thinking £1500 is too much for this work?

I went away and had a read on the subject and all the hits are regarding when you cut through existing rafters.. this is not the case. My rafters are full length and made to fit the velux inside them. The velux weighs less than the roof tiles so why is the doubling up needed. I have the wood and...

how long it takes has.been decided by the people quoting the job.. that is not in question here. from. what I am reading it wouldnt be plausible fit a joiner and his mate to complete it in 2 days.. so what I have is 2 skilled competent joiners doing a lot of work in a 2 day period. so with that...

The guys who quoted me £1500 - I can trust them 100%. I can find out where they live, they do a good job - if there was an issue they would come back. I would be happy to pay them upfront! If I got someone else I wouldn't pay them until BC had passed it.

The new rafters are taking the weight.. the old ones aren't being altered. The new ones are "beam rafters" or did they say girder... They are a friend of my brother in law so would come back if there was an issue.

I'm not really sure about any of your roofing terminology I work in IT. I would expect them to do a good job as they have done in the past ultimately if they don't do it correctly the Building Inspector will pick it up and they will have to come back and fix it
