    Old Ideal Classic

Ok well in that case I'm not sure where to go with this. I wouldn't know how to check the stat, so will prob have to get an engineer in and make sure the setup is working optimally

Does it look incorrectly fitted? I presume its the white and grey box at the bottom. Is the cylinder jacket enough or could it be better insulated

    Old Ideal Classic

Thanks all, yeah I suspect it's cylinder insulation causing the issue. I say issue, it's fires up quite often and for quite a while. Def on more on than off. The cylinder is also very old and apart from some rusty sections in the jacket it's also doing ok and no leake. Pic below. What...

    Old Ideal Classic

We have a 30 year old Ideal Classic heat only system with cylinder in the cupboard upstairs. Need hot water on for heating. Costing us quite a lot so will be looking to change asap to be honest. It still works fairly well mind. I have a question about temp setting. We have it set to 4 (out of...

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Understand thank you for explaining. I did mention not waiting to touch the programmer and just replace the thermostat hence the confusion around the replies. All sounds good though, will have a think and either go for a normal digi battery stat or replace the both with Hive etc. thanks again...

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Okay got that, thanks. The confusion is because you said the rf901 would be direct fit/swap, but then you just said a wireless stat would need a perm going to it - I thought mine had perm and switched live connections? So as it stands, I can't have a wireless stat unless I get some wiring mods...

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Sorry I must have def misunderstood then, I thought you said I could this with something like the rf901? Or is that battery operated and doesn't need perm live? Apologies, I've got v confused with this by the looks

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Kind of! Ha, so we Def want the current stat moved and therefore want wireless. I then expected the receiver (be it Hive, Drayton or Honeywell) would go where the existing stat was (currently 3 wires+earth) and then the thermometer could connect to that from the lounge Means we keep the...

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

So there's no way to use the hive as just a wireless thermostat, it has to replace the controller? And the rf901 or Honeywell are just wireless hermostats, no controller involved?

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

thought i was getting somewhere and almost pulled trigger on the hive mini wireless stat (for heat only boilers) - but all wiring diagrams show it connects the receiver to the controller. I want to replace our current stat with the receiver and leave the controller alone. Thought this would be...

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Had a look at some other wireless options and the hive mini wireless is on offer at the moment for a little less than the dratec. Also designed for heat only boilers, so id hope the receiver is also a similar wiring setup

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Maybe I'm overthinking it but wouldn't a receiver be needed where the current controller is, or will it just work well with our Drayton 522? Right now we're happy to keep it simple and just replace the combistat with a digital one until we get a new system next year . I do like the sound of a...

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Just so I'm understanding you properly, this stat could be a direct swap out for my current combistat? Just need to terminate the neutral wire? Is there a sensor that comes with it which can be placed in a different room or have I got this wrong. Thanks

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Happy to consider the digistat, so long as it's compatible with my current system. How would it connect to the boiler/controller? Thanks

    lawn level and drainage

Thanks. We are likely to be removing at least half of the lawn in place of solid ground, but for the remaining part I'll check out that advice

    Replace Drayton combistat with digital

Hi all Our Drayton combistat is not working so well and I'd like to replace it with a digital stat, perhaps Honeywell or hive All controls are next to our boiler using the Drayton lp522. Water needs to be on for heating to come on. Cylinder in cupboard gets heated up and water passes through...

    lawn level and drainage

Hi all, We've are planning to do a lot of work on the back garden soon - adding a large decking or porcelain sitting area on the right hand side as well as replacing a lot of the lawn itself (very old), then adding a shed to the left side. It's a relatively small area and the problem we have is...

    anyone insulated a conservatory roof?

Thanks. The concern seems to be more around the added weight of timber as well as the PIR and whether my frame can support this easily

    anyone insulated a conservatory roof?

Ah sorry yes this would be ideal but folks above recommend checking what the depth of the aluminium frame as it might not be strong enough for that
