    anyone insulated a conservatory roof?

Sounds as though less than 2cm pir isn't going to make a difference. Would love that to be wrong mind as saves me adding timber

    anyone insulated a conservatory roof?

The roof is uPVC not glass. I will need to take off the plastic to work out exact size of beams but the 15mm measurement was actually the depth of the plastic that covers the beam inside (from the uPVC). This is a standard 3x3 conservatory. At a minimum we would like to cover the uPVC roof with...

    Stones/gravel between garden and house

I'm reading that might not be a good idea as it will slow down drainage and could cause more problems

    Stones/gravel between garden and house

Our front garden is on a slight slope to the house. Grass comes up to the wall and has done since it was built in 2001. We moved in two years ago and thinking about digging out a foot or width from the front of house to replace it with some stones. It would look a lot nicer and also be easier to...

    anyone insulated a conservatory roof?

thank you. Our conservatory joists are alu with plastic, I'm not sure. But they aren't that deep. There's probably 15mm depth from the uPVC roof panel to the bottom of joist. I still like the idea of using Celotex then plasterboard (no timber) but the concern is air circulation

    anyone insulated a conservatory roof?

Hi All As the title says, we have an old conservatory with glasses all around to the bottom (no dwarf walls) and a plastic roof We therefore experience a very hot summer and cold winter in there I've seen many videos showing some good methods of insulating the roof using timber > Insulation >...

    Lowering drain cover

Hi We have 2 rather ugly drains in our garden which are raised about 6cm above garden level Would really like to lower these. I've taken the cover off and can see a number of courses that I'm hoping can be removed. Pic below What do people think? Thanks

    side of house gravel path

I just had a look at my mates heavy duty fabric and the stuff is a joke for allowing water through!! Maybe he was got unlucky but as others have mentioned the water pooled for a long time and no sign of it getting though. Will be staying away from that for sure. Thanks for the heads up

    side of house gravel path

Thanks. Last question on this.. if I'm to add some paving stones in the middle of this path to help walking on. Then could I get away with adding some sand under each on then adding this slate around each of them?

    side of house gravel path

Just watched this video and I'm really conflicted now. He agrees the thin membrane is rubbish so gonna will leave that.. but he also says that the heavy duty woven weave is actually really decent and allows water through easily

that being said, the cloth membrane (with a few rips after time) would surely be better than nothing at all, right? or am I just wasting 20 quid..

    side of house gravel path

makes sense. The cloth stuff seems terrible especially over time. It's a shame the heavy duty membrane isn't as permeable as advertised as that would have been great to use. I'd rather a few weeds every so often than the possibility of draining issues

    side of house gravel path

might be a silly question - but how would seeds get under the membrane if laid correctly and with stone on top? I'm a bit taken back by this as I always thought a membrane was needed to combat weed growth

    side of house gravel path

Thanks yeah Im thinking about a few slabs maybe along the middle. The roof is going to happen, but with so much other work going on, im not sure when and would like to membrane down if its going to be a while, plus I thought it helped a lot with weeds, but turns out i'm wrong :-/

    side of house gravel path

thanks yeah prob more decorative but they were free and local, so decided why not. So if the membrane isn't there for weed control just to stop the chippings sinking, then would heavy duty be best? We def don't want water pooling issues, so I really hope they allow it through easily

    side of house gravel path

Hi all, I am finally getting around to sorting out the small path down side of our house. The plan is to create a lean to roof linking gutters to our main drain, but first thing is the ground. It's going to be walked on fairly often. I have dug out a couple of cm of mud so far which had some...

    where is this draining?!

I've been looking at draining solutions in our back garden/patio. The old block paving is pooling in some areas and whilst investigating, I've found what seems to be a small area near the fence where water is draining into. I really don't want to dig up too much until I get professionals in for...

garden slopes down towards house wall

the trench will be starting alongside two paving slabs (which are in front of the door) and it will then follow along to the left side of the house where there's a drain on the side. There's another driveway there and garage so would rather drain it either in the ditch or link it to the roof drain

garden slopes down towards house wall

thank you. the drain i mentioned is for rain water, but if we decided on creating a french drain then would need to ensure it slopes to that properly. Worried about getting that wrong and it doesn't drain properly and causes a worse situation, so maybe easier just to fill the small trench with...
