Sand will wash out over time. Much better to set them on a mortar bed. You can buy 25kg bags of ready mix from DIY stores. Just add water. Will be a much better job and will avoid those rocky slabs.
I just had a look at my mates heavy duty fabric and the stuff is a joke for allowing water through!! Maybe he was got unlucky but as others have mentioned the water pooled for a long time and no sign of it getting though. Will be staying away from that for sure. Thanks for the heads up
