How to blend in rough edges on ceiling patch repair?

Hi all. Not so long ago I had a patch repair done to my ceiling and the skim coat was overlapped over the join and onto the good part of the ceiling. However, the entire perimeter of this repair is very rough and uneven and needs to be blended in to the rest of the ceiling so that is good...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Nice one guys, great help as always. OK, quick word on the Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura. I can't speak for it's durability as I've only just painted it. However, in terms of finish, it is very flat and clean, unlike your usual water based paints with brush marks everywhere. If you have a...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Hello all again. I made a start today and got all the paint on. It looks like it might need a second coat though I'm not sure. If I was to do a second coat would I need to sand in between? It is a waterbased satin paint on MDF, FYI.....could I just go straight on with the second? if I...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Thanks for your reply pitta. I've still not started this yet as I got sidetracked with other work but coincidentally I am looking to get back on this in the next week or so. I've not had a chance to use the Sikkens paint yet so I can't provide any feedback on that. The MDF I've bought...

Old tenants have painted over mouldy walls, what do I do?

Yeah, they all seem to be pretty expensive. They do it in Brewers, they said they could do a discount if I open a cash account so I might ask them about that. Thanks for all the links.

Old tenants have painted over mouldy walls, what do I do?

Nice one. I will have a look at those when the time comes.....thanks a lot. I here Zinsser Perma-White is good for this sort of thing, has anyone used that before? Also, does anyone know of an anti-mould additive that can be added to paint? I've read actual anti-mould paint is meant to be...

Old tenants have painted over mouldy walls, what do I do?

Thanks for the help misterhelpful. They have gone over a lot of walls so this could end up being really labour intensive. What I'm worried about is not being able to get all the paint off and there being mould underneath these sections making all my other effort pointless - what a mess! :x...

    Quality Paint tray

I'm not sure about professional quality but I got a good plastic 12" one from B&Q and a big tray/scuttle hybrid (around 17") from Brewers which was around a tenner.

Old tenants have painted over mouldy walls, what do I do?

Hi all. I am fixing up my old house and have learned that the old tenants have painted over several walls that has mould underneath. This mould has not been cleaned and killed. I'm not sure what my options are now. If I just paint over this paint again (their paint job is awful) the...

Flexible foam sanding pads on architrave?

Alright guys, thanks for your help. I was planning to gloss on gloss. If it yellows quicker then that is something I am willing to live with, it's on my rented property and the existing paintwork is rubbish anyway. I am loathe to even do it once (it really, really needs a fresh coat) so I...

Flexible foam sanding pads on architrave?

Hi all. I have a whole house of highly patterned architrave with loads pf grooves to repaint. I aim to do a light sand so i can gloss over them, and was wondering whether a foam sanding pad would be the most appropriate tool for this job? Do they usually work well or are they a waste of...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Righto....I will get some of that...is it this that I want? http://www.u-diy.co.uk/index.aspx?s=Product&p=3300 I will let the caulk dry for about a week before I prime/topcoat it. The screw heads and the countersunk holes in the MDF, shall I just prime that normally with MDF primer...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

I've ordered two tubs of Isopon P38 now, but I will definitely keep the Sikkens filler in mind for the future. Cheers. I was thinking of using two screws because it's 120mm high, just seems inadequate to only do one, I'm worried it might not sit tight enough against the wall. I will...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Thanks again for the reply dcdec. Like I said, I won't be painting over the PVA (I'm fully aware it's a bad idea), it was just a thought to seal the bare MDF inside the screw holes/sides of architrave as I thought that any filler would adhere better to a PVA surface than to a bare MDF one...

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Hi dcdec, great tips 8) I have actually bought the Sikkens Satura now, having read on other forums the consensus seems to be that it's great stuff and flows like oil based paint. How durable it is I don't know so I guess I'll just have to take care to not mark it....I think part of the...

    Clean new skim before painting?

Paintmate and Richard C - thanks for the tips, much appreciated. As far as using the roller over it, it's a chance I will have to take as the ceiling is large and I will have to try and keep a wet edge. It hasn't been touched in weeks so should be fully dry.

Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

Hi all. I have some new MDF skirting and architrave that I need a satinwood finish on. It was pre-primed but I put on a coat of wood primer/undercoat as well which was a bit thick but seem to have gone on well enough (I only realised afterwards you're not really meant to use it on MDF). I...

Appropriate undercoat for water based satin?

Thanks mate. Really can't afford to get this wrong again. I will see if they have any Crown/Dulux ones but if not then I might order off the net. I saw you mentioned Floetrol in the other thread, I have some of that so I'll use that as well.

just spent ages painting woodwork with water based satin...

Hi Canonbeck. I can't be of much help (sorry) but can I ask why you think it looks terrible? Have you not managed to get a good finish? Or is it something else (not used to it/not to your taste?) I'd be interested to know as I am about to do something similar.
