    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

Interesting. So with my 30lpm flow i'd be using 18lpm from the tank, so I would get a true 10 minutes out of this boiler. About the same as I will from the 300l cylinder. Could I do it so I had a cylinder and combi on the same circuit? Would this work? Its pretty unorthodox i'd imagine, and...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

That is something worth looking into I guess. To me though it looks like it could cost more. Yes the hot water arrives quicker. But you also have a much larger surface area for heat loss, an extra pump which could fail, and uses power etc etc. It would be nice, but i'm keeping the pipe runs...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

I also thought this, He could be correct, if the flow rate was 20lpm or similar, and the boiler is "clever" enough to figure it can use 12lpm from the combi and 8lpm from the tank. I doubt this is the case though. I'm still not sure how much usable hot water I will get from the 300l tank...

I read it differently, I think he said the fan was £245, which The op said is expensive.

    Moving gas meter for extension

How old is the meter? We got ours moved during the swap for a new meter FOC. We were lucky it fell when they were swapping the gas mains coming into the house. But seriously, if your building an extension and a few hundred quid is off putting i'd think long and hard about it. If its a fair...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

This cylinder is tripple coil, not sure on the brand, but might be the way to go. http://www.discountedheating.co.uk/shop/acatalog/Grant_Duowave_Plus_Triple_Coil_Indirect_Cylinders.html

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

Hello Alec, thanks for your input. 170 litres in 10 minutes isn't what I want though. Ideally i'd like to fill the bath in around 8 minutes (250 liters). The second option is pretty viable. I'm not sure what you mean about recirculation loop, do you mean run it like the CH and having the...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

I'm not 100% sure what you mean, or if you read correctly? A combi on its own is/was never an option. I'm going for a 300l unvented, with a combi for the "normal" taps. I.e. downstairs, ensuites. The unvented will be purely for the master bath/shower.

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

Ok, just thinking outloud here. I've just done another test and get 30-32 lpm from the mains cold, this, I could upgrade should I require. (I ran a 32mm MDPE line to the road, however when calling the water board they said they couldn't come out for ages. So I just connected to the old pipe...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

Sorry, I wasn't clear with what I said. The combi is going downstairs in a unit. But the cylinder is going in the loft. There isn't a gas supply to the loft. And its a fairly long run. So that would still be a slight issue. Also, if it stores 170 litres. And flows 36l a minute, It would be...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

 I meant indirect! With the backup of immersion. I was going to go for Combi so there is always hot water at the taps, and 1 bathroom. Then I can pick and chose when to warm the stored water. I'm not sure of the warm up times, and efficiency of doing it this way but at least I have the...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

Very good suggestion, I'd not seen those, however I see 2 issues. The first is their capacity, (I have a very large bath which will require close to 250l hot water.) Also the physical size, the boiler is situated in the ultility room inside a "tall unit" so the depth is too large to fit in...

    Combi or unvented direct cylinder?

Hello, I posted some time ago about which boiler would be best. I have since upgraded the water coming into the house to 32mm mdpe and my flow rate has improved a lot. I have a static pressure of 3.6 bar. I have a flow rate of approx 30lpm. (this was tested by running 2 taps (bathroom) at...

Best heating system for low pressure mains?

Well I went for it and installed a 32mm (waaay overkill) MDPE pipe, I connected to the existing lead pipe at the edge of my property as the waterboard were going to take ages. The flow is much improved. I haven't done an accurate test yet nor have I measured pressure drop. The bath has a 10mm...

    MDPE insulating.

I wish I saw that site before I messed around with the wrap around stuff. Is there anybody local likely to sell it? If not i'll buy some online. I'm using 32mm because its a fairly long run, and I'll be running a direct/unvented cylinder for hot water so want the best possible pressure. I...

    MDPE insulating.

Hello, I'm just replacing the old lead pipe coming into my house for a 32mm MDPE pipe. Obviously it will be buried on the outside, but where it enters the house (in the cellar). I'm going to have to "lag" insulate it. I couldn't see anything specific for doing this size pipe. The current...

Best heating system for low pressure mains?

Very true about the static pressure. But surely the only difference between my static pressure and working pressure is friction losses in the pipe? On the other hand, you say I can fit a 4 bar pump, what is the flow rate? I.e. Its no good been 4 bar at 12l per minute. I'm not much better off...

Best heating system for low pressure mains?

Thanks for the input. The main purpose of this thread was so I can order the huge bath and shower, and if replacing the main doesn't give desired results I can do something else. I'll certainly replace the main first then I can look at boosting if it still isn't sufficient. Am I right in...

Best heating system for low pressure mains?

If I have 3.5 bar static. Surely all I have is friction losses. If the pressure is there to start with and flow reduces it then it should all be pressure drop because of the pipes. It takes 2-3 seconds to recover to 3.5 bar after the tap has been on. It also takes around a second for the...

    Advice on replacing heating system

To the Op, are you sure the ceilings are 18foot? Thats crazy high! Please don't take this as an insult, or criticism. But why does the amount of people living their come into account? My farther in law lives in a 3 storey 6 bedroom house with 5 toilets/4 bathrooms. 3 people live there. My...
