Grant Vortex 26 Oil Combi & Google Nest Thermostat (no previous thermostat or timer installed)

Thanks for the quick reply. This Grant boiler simply has an off/timed/constant switch for the central heating. With this wiring setup I assume I’ll need to leave it on constant and the Nest will switch it off/on depending on the thermostat controller? Thanks Joe

Grant Vortex 26 Oil Combi & Google Nest Thermostat (no previous thermostat or timer installed)

Evening all, Just moved into a house with a Grant Vortex 26 Oil Combi boiler and no timer or thermostat. Is it straightforward enough to install a Google Nest Thermostat Heat Link? I’ve got the wiring diagram of the boiler and the Heat Link attached. Thanks in advance. Joe

300 Year Old Cottage Concrete Floor / Flooring

Hi thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay! Behind that wall is the new extension so I’m not really sure what to do. I planned on putting a new wood floor down now that the slab can breathe but I’m not quite sure how to go from here! Not on a hillside and behind that is my kitchen and...

300 Year Old Cottage Concrete Floor / Flooring

Hi there, I live in a (roughly) 300 year old cottage in Wales which had an extension added by previous owners. What looks like a new concrete slab, heavy underlay and carpet was in the lounge (old cottage) and the walls were plastered and painted, covering the lime render and original stone...

Outside Lighting Advice (Existing IP66 Junction Box)

Thanks for the reply. The junction boxes were put there to supply outside lighting according to the previous owner. I have the certificates from the electrician who did the electrics. Roberts Rd-50 DAB Radio Sound/Volume Issue

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. Looks like I'll have to take it to a repair shop or even contact Roberts directly. I was hoping it was a common or obvious issue but it sounds like its a job for an expert. Cheers all the same, I'll post a reply if I manage to get it sorted Joe

Roberts Rd-50 DAB Radio Sound/Volume Issue

Hi there, Thanks for your reply. My knowledge is fairly limited - I have swapped the speaker out but as far as testing individual components I wouldn't know where to start although I do have a multimeter here. As for when the problem started it was around 4 months ago. Thanks in advance

Roberts Rd-50 DAB Radio Sound/Volume Issue

Hi I have a Roberts RD-50 radio which turns on fine and tunes to stations perfectly. The volume however, is barely noticeable when turned to max. I've tried a new charger and running the unit from batteries, but both had the same result. I have also tried running the unit through another...

    Painted slate floor in kitchen

Hi What would be the best way to remove floor paint from a slate tiles floor in my kitchen. I've had a go at scraping and using nitromors but it didn't really do the trick. It's a shame as the kitchen is in a 200 year old cottage and looks a bit out of place! Cheers Joe

Wiring - Two switches for one light

I'll take some photos of the wiring at each of the switch plates and post later tonight. They've been like that since we have moved in, I thought maybe it was a common wiring fault :).

Wiring - Two switches for one light

Hi there, Just moved into a new house. There is a light switch downstairs and upstairs for the same light (stairs/landing). When the downstairs light switch turns the light on, the upstairs switch won't turn it off, and vice versa! Is this likely to ve cured with a simple wiring tweak...

    Gas fire cutting out

calm down! I was just saying, I was charged £50, for a problem that seems to have reoccurred... I was just asking if it was worth it to have a similar call out and be charged the same again if my fire is at fault. I wasnt after the rude reply :s

Well I would, but last time I was charged £50 for him blowing air down the pilot... I'd rather save it on a new fire if its duff, catch 22 i guess!

    Gas fire cutting out

Hi, Just wondered if it was time to pack in the old gas fire and get a new one. Its been there for years (we moved in 2 years ago and its been there since), and has started cutting out when its on. Sometimes it will cut out after about 10 seconds, sometimes about 2 hours. I've noticed if...

New central heating system in small 1 bed house

Sounds good to me, are there specific models (like the ones above) that I would have to look at for going in the airing cupboard and the flue going up into the loft? or can any modern one do that? I was looking at the Betacom 24c, as its meant for the smaller home, and its recommended use is...
