    of course, yep the htg would make the orange wire live if the HTG was on ONLY on its own - thus the grey would also be live. - so if i just had HTG OFF at the programmer would I still get a chance of a backread signal ?

    sorry one last point ... why would the boiler heat exchanger get scaled up over time? i don't think fresh water gets into the system that often? perhaps over the years though? although the system has had inhibitor in it always.... ??

    Thanks I will do that - I take it all drain off washers are similar in size and will fit most types!! :) Am I likely to get wet though ...... One other point: what is the advantage of having a drain off near the boiler? is it to do with quicker re-filling due to air, etc?

    Thanks for the tip - will a new drain vale innards be standard size? or are there different types? If I take the innards out, and the washer is stuck/welded on the seat, and i get it out, will the water shoot everywhere though? .... I have been using grips to nundo the rad vale spindle...
