Must a breathable membrane on a timber wall have an air gap?

The inner or outer wall? Outer is horizontal 28mm thick T&G planks interlocked onto one another like a lot of 'log cabins' Inner will be plaster board and cladding onto battens. I'd assume they would need to be horizontal for the cladding to attach to. Cheers

Must a breathable membrane on a timber wall have an air gap?

I have done a lot of searching on this forum but have not found a definitive answer so I hope someone can put me right. I have built a timber summerhouse/log cabin using 28mm thick T&G wall planks. it is double glazed. The Roof and floor I am happy with and both are insulated and finished...

    Summerhouse - interior walls

Bit of a weird one but I want to wallpaper the inside of my 'log cabin'. I am going to turn it into a traditional looking pub. It's one of those summer houses made from 28mm T&G. Obviously I can't wallpaper directly onto the T&G so was going to put Plasterboard onto the wall first...

Cheers Alan, I've since thought sod it and been out to buy a few rolls of underlay so I can do the job properly. I'll keep the spare cap sheet for my other shed.

Two layers of top felt on shed?

I am felting my summerhouse. I am aware of the best practise of at least one Layer of underlay nailed to the deck before a cap sheet is glued to the top with cold adhesive. However. I have been supplied with way too much felt. It didn't come with any underlay but I have worked out I...

    Which direction to lay felt

I agree, no fall is ridiculous but I wasn't aware that was the case till I'd constructed it. Shoddy company!!! I was going to nail the first layer down (for movement) and then bond the second layer to the first using cold adhesive. Do you think it's worth putting a small batten (under...

    Which direction to lay felt

Ah, I see so the Problem is the potential for water getting pushed back up the slope. I'll make sure I put two layers down well sealed and see how that fares over the next year. If no good ill Board and EPDM it next spring, I just don't have the finances this year, besides I have 4 rolls of...

    Which direction to lay felt

It's a summer house. The felt came with it, it's your standard capping felt. The roof had no slope so I added firrings to create one. Why wouldn't felt work?

    Which direction to lay felt

I am felting my summerhouse roof tomorrow. It's is 5m long x 3m wide and slopes down the long side. I have raised it 100mm higher at one end, so it is a very gradual 1 in 50 slope My question is Which orientation should I lay the felt? In 3 or 4 pieces following the slope down...

HI, It depends how creative you are with space. Some people have made great pub sheds in a 8x6 shed. Google 'readers sheds' then look for the pub sheds tab for inspiration.

    Furniture / bar Plans ?

Hi does anybody have detail drawings for bench garden seating? I want to build some basic seating into an L shape in the corner of my decking, which I can eventually top with custom made cushions. Also would anybody have plans for a basic home bar counter with built in shelves. I could...

    Felt underlay - Why?

Thanks for your informative reply Alan. It now winds me up that after spending 2 grand on a summerhouse with quick gardens, they only supply it with roof felt and don't mention what you have suggested. Also I have had to add firrings to give it the 1in50 fall otherwise there would have been...

    Felt underlay - Why?

Why would you use underlay underneath shed felt? just a curiosity as a few people have suggested it, and not said why. Also if applied properly, why won't one layer of felt do the job on a large shed roof? Some people are saying there should be 2 or 3 layers. That would make the folds at...
