    Worcester 24CDi RSF, no DHW

Thanks Nickso. What can turn it into a nightmare? The boss has discovered that a repair kit can be had for under a tenner, so is keen to have a go himself (!). C.

    Worcester 24CDi RSF, no DHW

Just had a quick look at the boiler at work which is refusing to fire-up when there is a DHW demand. The black plastic disc on the plunger on the diverter valve assembly moves towards the microswitch when a hot tap is opened, but doesn't quite touch the button, let alone actuate it...

Mini IR thermometer for balancing radiators

Yes, I know this is an ancient thread, but I thought I'd add my experience in case anyone comes across it when Googling (like I did). I had a cheapie (£30) IR thermometer which I'd bought for work lying around, so thought I'd give it a go after replacing the leaky TRVs and LSVs on my rads...

Fixing mirror to tiled wall with adhesive

An underwhelming response, but never mind. For the benefit of anyone else needing to do this, I built a crude wooden support with three battens - one to support the underside of the mirror, and two to support that batten on the floor. This was all securely taped to the wall with duct tape...

Fixing mirror to tiled wall with adhesive

I've just had my bathroom re-tiled with semi-gloss ceramic tiles. I want to put up a mirror, about 2' wide by 1 high, but am reluctant to drill the tiles just in case I change my mind about the size/position one day. I've bought some mirror adhesive (Geocel Trade Mate Mirror Fix...

Suitable edging for laminate flooring in bathroom

Anyone got any ideas or opinions about this please? I know laminate in bathrooms is a bit "borderline", but there are types sold as suitable in all the DIY sheds and specialist flooring retailers. Thanks, C.

Suitable edging for laminate flooring in bathroom

Hello, What are the recommended way of finishing the edges of a laminate flooring in a bathroom, please? I fitted glued-together water-resistant laminate in my old bathroom and it was great, surprisingly durable. But I was never happy with the edges. I fitted a skirting board and...

Do YOU have a broken boiler and also own a dog?

As you say, kids are just as bad. I still remember fixing a washing machine for someone, who seemed to think it was perfectly OK that her 2-year-old son was inches away from sticking his fingers in the back of the machine while it was powered-up, saying things like "Ah, isn't he cute? He's...

Putting a washing machine in a garage

If it's a garage that's integral with the house, it's unlikely to drop below freezing except in very severe weather and/or when the rest of the house is unoccupied and the central heating is off. I certainly have unlagged cold water pipes in my garage which have never frozen in the 15 years I've...

Hob & Gas Fire Not Working Properly When Heating Comes O

Or even Transco to check the regulator on your gas meter. Had exactly the same prob with my combi boiler a few years ago, plus tepid hot water. Transco turned up within 15 mins of ringing and sorted it out in another 15. No charge, as it was their equipment at fault.

    Ariston hob continuos spark

Presume you mean the main RCD in your consumer unit tripped, rather than one of the smaller MCBs? Has the hob got very wet recently? e.g. something boiling over in a big way, or very enthusiastic cleaning? If so, it may resolve itself after drying out.

    Which programmable wireless room stat?

Thanks guys. I preferred the appearance of the Siemens tx. to the Honeywell, which to me looks a bit "girlie", but I will take your advice and go for the latter. Does £90 + VAT sound reasonable...

    Which programmable wireless room stat?

I'm looking to buy a programmable room stat to replace my separate timeswitch and room stat. The house is hard to heat (entirely flat roofed!), and it often gets too cold at night with the heating off. It would be nice to have a controller which can keep the house at, say, 21 degrees when...

HELP WANTED IN REPLACING VAILLANT 824E COMBI PRESSURE RELIEF

I bet you could... one of the regulars here seems to have a pic of a foreign Vaillant van appear after every post they make.

HELP WANTED IN REPLACING VAILLANT 824E COMBI PRESSURE RELIEF

Hi Tony, Yes, well said. But I did take the trouble to emphasise: and and to thank Bell824 for his second post which was all the OP needed to know. It would have been great if that had been said earlier on in the thread. The first two posts weren't of any help to the OP. Keep...

HELP WANTED IN REPLACING VAILLANT 824E COMBI PRESSURE RELIEF

Your question sounds reasonable enough to me :D I don't know your particular boiler, but generally, you have to drain down the boiler first, usually by isolating the feed and return pipes to the radiators using the quarter-turn valves, and then undoing a drain cock under the boiler. Note...

    ideal icos he24 boiler broken

What a rubbish design. Anyone who's done the slightest bit of plumbing has probably encountered a leaky AAV

Saunier Duval boiler nearly killed my plumber

Certainly when I've replaced water-carrying parts on my boiler, there's always been some water sloshed around during the process, some of which has sometimes ended up on the PCB in spite of taking precautions. A very cautious approach with plenty of rags, a hairdryer and patience to allow...
