    its a new kitchen. the swa comes into a cupboard and then into a box, and joined to 2.5mm T&E with a jiffy block. best part is that they have then stucka 13amp plug onto the end the T&E and plugged it into a RCD socket Why would you only terminate one end? the other end just snipped...

    just looked at a job where the swa comes into the house in a ip66 plastic box. no gland. steel armour has just been cut off. it is 3 core though so my question is: does the steel core need to be terminated or is it ok just to have one of the 3 cores as the earth?

    well these particular pipes are buried in the wall. not much i can do about that!! anyway i've made sure that theres 25mm between the cables and the pipe and i've wrapped the pipe in insulting tape

    well in all reality , the pipe is quite close to the surface and so i could probably chase a bit more to achieve the 25mm. i was just wondering about the implications of anyone drilling through both the pipe and the cable, or is that not the issue as long as they are in the correct...

    interesting! job im on now has a gas pipe that runs from the boiler and then horizontal (ish) for about 24" and then heads south and eventually into the floor. unfortunately the cables from a socket run underneath the pipe as it goes along the wall

    thanks for your very in-depth reply. we are planning a large extension in the near future so will probably do something to the other walls to match in then i.e re render and waterproof until then i am going to clad the internal walls

    hi im having big problems at the moment with black mould on our mainly upstairs walls which face the elements. house is constrcted out of solid 9" concrete block so there is no insulation. i recently laid new loft insulation and wonder if this could have made the problem...

    can anyone explain 742-01-04 , 742-01-01 and 743-01-02 of the 16th edition to me it says that on the one hand, defects have to be put right before the EIC can be issued and on the other hand, it says that any defects must be recorded on the EIC

    yea i know its notifiable and having thought about it for a few minutes i realised that of course it wont be like for like because changing 3036 fuses to mcb's changes the characteristics of the system. so do i tell the customer that i cant do the work as i cannot legally issue an EIC...

    customer wants a new consumer unit old one is BS3036 type fuses tested before i fitted new one and found IR to be lower than allowed customer aware and doesnt want to pay for other work, just the new fuse board because it will be better than what is there can i do this work...

    tns will be a sheathed incoming main cable and will usually have an earth off of the sheath which is soldered tncs incoming will just be phase/neutral and is usually identifiable by a block on the cutout by which an earth is connected
