I had never heard of this. Thank you very much.

Cost to replace key entry with fingerprint or retina scan ?

Just thinking how much it could be to do away with keys for either my house or business premises and have entry reliant upon fingerprint or retina scans. I am looking at setting up remote businesses and don't really want to to have a key problem. I also like the idea of simply logging into my...

How to run a storage heater on Econ 7 and daytime electric

Part P electrician will be sorting it out but I want to think through the options first and I'd like some help. I don't really want to only connect it to the 24 hour electric (only 1 meter so night-time would be on Econ 7 anyway) because I'd have to run it through a timer to switch it on for...

Given free rein, how would you design a heating system ?

If we can't find the house we want in the next couple of years we're considering building one or more likely, going for a renovation project. In both of these I am looking at a new wiring and heating so on the presumption of their being gas on site, how would you go about it ? To give some...

What is the cost of running an electric towel radiator ?

On my electric, with Econ 7 overnight, my costs are 10.1p and 5.1p and thus the maximum potential cost was an horrendous 0.5(17*10.1+7*5.1)/100*365 = £379 !!! Now the old one was on a theoretical maximum of 0.15(17*10.1+7*5.1)/100*365 = £114 and I guess that was running near full output given...

What is the cost of running an electric towel radiator ?

Just to close this off I thought I'd update. In the end I bought this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thermostatic-500W-Towel-Rail-Radiator-1800x600mm-Straight-Chrome-Plated-RE58-/370579835561? but at £125 delivered not some crazy ass £450 as advertised now ! 1600 x 600 is sure is quite...

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

I guess a tight grill / gauze would help stop the bugs etc. but I would have thought a decently designed backdraft flap at the point of entry would be largely sufficient. Surely they have perfected a design specification for that by 2012 !

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

What is what like ? The noise consensus seems to be measured at 3m or something which is utterly pointless if it is being used for a through the wall application at 40cm. However, I still see the decision process as first needing to establish the type of technology and power required...

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

Thanks for your help. I suppose my inquisitive mind would rather understand why something is right rather than simply accept that it is. I'd also rather understand why something is wrong for the same reason. A few steps forward but not quite enough knowledge just yet.

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

The external vent is forced open by the flow of air, sealing closed after the unit is switched off. If there is no externally closed vent, then surely all manner of items could enter and would only be prevented from entering the bathroom by the iris closure. If that were the only barrier, it...

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

So centrifugal fans are more powerful ? which would appear better as it could extract more vapour before it hit the window or cold areas and turning into condensation. I appreciate the iris acts as a barrier but you would surely have a barrier at the outlet would you not ?

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

I see some fans are centrifugal. Is this the best design for in the wall extraction with a total room to outside depth of perhaps 40cm ?

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

Yeah really. I'd have thought the best place to stop a backdraft was at the point of entry, namely the external wall. Unless you are talking about this providing an additional barrier, which I appreciate.

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

I had seen these or at least the smaller ones and sort of discounted then as "quirky" with extra moving parts to go wrong. Have you used / seen these in action ?

    Most powerful bathroom extractor fan?

I like the look of it but I'm only sucking it out through a stone wall about 40cm away. What would be a practical alternative in my situation ?

Best extractor fan for bathroom ?

Some are £20 whilst others are £100+ and I don't know how to differentiate between them. So can anyone recommend a fairly quiet extractor fan with humidistat to take out quite a lot of steam generated after a sequence of hot showers (worst case scenario). Links would be great. Thanks.

How to attach curtain rail / track / pole to UPVC door ?

In the end went with a lightweight track on a roll, cut to length and secured with the screws which came with it after pre drilling small 3mm holes. Quite secure and a good result.

Bathrooom heat recovery extractor or simple extractor fan ?

I want an extractor fan installed in the bathroom and I would like it humidity controlled. So I can get a cheap fan like this http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/ADAUE100HT.html or a more expensive one like this...
