Chronic condensation - never seen it like this before

Towels on radiator in bathroom certainly and some washing hung when partially wet (well spun), though only when possible with open windows. I do need to look at the bathroom moisture extraction I admit. Running a fan longer would seem to be a starting point. There was a burst pipe around a...

Chronic condensation - never seen it like this before

Seriously old house made of stone with no air brick ventilation - I see that as an issue - thanks Current ventilation is primarily via opening the windows. This is what I meant when I said it could not be done when the heating was on or at night.

Chronic condensation - never seen it like this before

Exactly, but apart from identifying poor double glazing and a warmed interior I am struggling to suggest a solution. I appreciate the bathroom is a problem but there is no contagion to any of the other rooms on the same floor, nevermind on other floors.

Chronic condensation - never seen it like this before

But that is it, condensation does just come out of thin air. The warm air within the building meets the cold panes of glass and condenses into water. I appreciate the air needs to absorb the water in the first place but that is where I have a problem in my understanding this situation.

Chronic condensation - never seen it like this before

Sorry, I meant that you could not open windows overnight. Neither can you open windows when you have the heating on. Apart from that, where do you get ventilation from ?

What is the cost of running an electric towel radiator ?

I know that the true calculation is a massive computation of many variables relating to ambient temperature, insulation, etc. even down the the amount of water retained by the towels in question but NASA aren't able to help at the moment :) Initial research seems to indicate a circa 65c...

What is the cost of running an electric towel radiator ?

I need a large towel radiator and it has to work off the electric. Something around 1.7m x 0.6m seems to be about the right dimensions for the towels I want to hang. However, some of the wattages on these large radiators frighten the hell out of me ! A 800w element would, were it drawing...

Chronic condensation - never seen it like this before

Old 19th century (at latest) house with cheap, poorly installed double glazing but even so, I've never seen a property suffer from so much condensation. It literally covers the windows in every room and kitchen and then drips down into puddles on the window sill. Ventilating the place doesn't...

Cannot change shower temperature - always luke warm

I didn't get very far googling thermoscopic units as you may guess but my first issue is whether you can actually change the temperature if you have fitted a pressure equalising valve ? If not, then there ain't no point moving past that.

Cannot change shower temperature - always luke warm

I've a mains fed (instantaneous hot and direct cold) Mira 723 shower and to balance the pressure (cold was higher pressure) I fitted a pressure equalising valve http://www.plumbingsuppliesandfittings.co.uk/Water_pressure_equalising_valve--product--80.html and now I can't change the temperature...

Best way to secure studwork to concrete floor

That's why I'm looking for advice. What would you use to secure the sole plate then ? The easier the better please.

That's incredibly kind of you. Thanks.

What can I brush on to seal and cover up an old ceiling ?

I think that or similar would be the way to go to keep the cost down. Cheers.

Best way to secure studwork to concrete floor

No, no DPM. As far as I can ascertain, concrete laid over 200+ year old stone / rubble and then fairly recently (and poorly) sealed with some plastic wash on sealant. Not level enough as well really if the truth be told, also easier to deal with under a floating floor. I intend to put a DPM...

Best way to secure studwork to concrete floor

I read and heard about all this expansion thing years ago before I put down my first hardwood floor and you know what, I've never seen a floor move without water ingress. Maybe one millimetre that you cannot see but seriously, I've put down half a dozen and lived with them for two decades in...

Best budget (ish) circular saw at the moment ?

I guessed it might be that case but you never know if the DIY shops have put together a decent blade set for Xmas. I'm near Farnham in Surrey.

What can I brush on to seal and cover up an old ceiling ?

Because at the moment it is a bit flakey and will only get worse. Sealing it now should provide some years of non maintenance, sort of preventative measures.

Mira 723 shower - can I change from gravity to mains fed ?

Not sure about age or service history but I was considering a pressure equalising valve like this http://www.plumbingsuppliesandfittings.co.uk/Water_pressure_equalising_valve--product--80.html if there was any discernible pressure difference between the hot and cold water supply (which I think...

    B & Q - Trade point

From my looking at CLS, MDF, T&G flooring, etc. they come out ahead of Wickes when you factor in delivery and the fact that hey can and will cut sheeting for you. Delivered to site for free starting at £250 incl VAT can't be bad when Wickes want £30 or so, an extra 12% or thereabouts. Wickes...

Best way to secure studwork to concrete floor

I'd sort of envisaged the locking of the flooring to walls, all tied in as being quite tight. Also, the property is built of massive stones, hardly likely, in my humble opinion, to be moving anywhere soon. I guess though that the idea came out of necessity rather than practicality, hence my...
