British Gas Worcester C1 combi boiler - pressure always high

Just wanted to thank everyone for their comments and give you my final (finders crossed) update. The BG guy who came out to me last Tuesday was the same guy who had correctly diagnosed at the beg of December that my expansion vessel was kaput. Hallelujah, someone who I had confidence in...

British Gas Worcester C1 combi boiler - pressure always high

Thanks guys, I will put your points to the BG engineer when he comes on Tuesday. Re the hose, are you saying we shouldn't have it at all? Should there be some sort of blanks in place instead? My husband has had to turn one of the screws in it a lot over the last two years to try and keep...

British Gas Worcester C1 combi boiler - pressure always high

Thanks Ianmcd. My husband has said for a while he thought the braided hose could be passing but we were told by the BG guy on the 18th that this was ok. It was the same guy who said if it wasn't the vessel it would the heat exchanger. The vessel was as flat as a pancake. We have noticed that...

British Gas Worcester C1 combi boiler - pressure always high

Hoping you can help with new issues detailed in my update below. Well finally, when the BG guy came at the beg of Dec to do my annual service he agreed that the expansion vessel should be replaced. However his visit coincided with a very cold snap so we agreed to leave things until after New...

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

Just that it was one wire into one of the two, she closed it up too quick before I could count. She didn't have the mains power off when she did it so I know I could unscrew the box and see it at a glance and just count along (in that it would be safe to do this as long as I didn't touch...

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

I know the electrician doing the EICR/ rewiring will need to do that, but I want to do it so I know which sockets are affected. I will try not to use them, without overloading the other ones of course. I will just feel safer knowing which is which. Thanks again for all your help.

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

I don't have the old lights anymore and the new lights were very expensive. I hunted for a very long time to get exactly what i wanted. I have table lamps and a central light. However as the electrician pointed out the central light is exactly the same type of light fitting and switch as the...

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

Thanks Daniel, I was going to go round the sockets in the next few days to check this. All the lights, except for those in the extension, are powered via the one trip switch. The kitchen sockets, cooker, extension sockets, central heating and shower all have their own trip switches. However...

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

Thank you so much for all your help JohnW2, and also to the others who responded to my plight. You really are a great bunch of people to take the time to give me this advice. Whilst you haven't made me feel any less anxious about what's to come, at least now that I have some advice about my...

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

Sorry John, can't remember exactly. It was a long pointer thing that she stuck directly into the socket then read off the machine it was attached to. All that's on the paperwork is the Earth Loop Impedence Test reading of 0.35, which I take it refers to the lights rather than the plug sockets

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

She used a tester in two of the wall sockets that are positioned above the skirting below each of the lights and said readings were spot-on. Don't know if this is the IR test you are talking about

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

JohnW2, she didn't dig around. She did things in the following order - Took down the mirror and brackets Took down the light that wasn't working (light two) Took down the light that was working (light one) Checked behind light one for a cable leading to light two Opened the light switch...

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

All that the British Gas electrician did was to take the brackets out the wall and she told me she had put a block in behind the light switch so that it can't be turned on. She didn't tell me if she had done anything to the actual light fittings. EDIT - I did see tape on the wires at the...

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

Would it be best to get an EICR done before I get anyone in to quote for the job? Or should I just go ahead and get quotes? I didn't sleep at all last night for worrying about it all.

Advice please - old VIR cabling to be rewired

Apologies in advance if this post appears a bit long winded but I want to make sure that I give you all the info so that you can give me the right sort of advice. Our two-bed semi was built in 1960, with an extension built in 1981 before we moved here in 1982. In 1998 we got it rewired with...

Radiator heats up at frost setting

Hi, wondering if anyone can help clarify why the radiator in my bedroom, which is set at the frost setting, still heats up when my CH is on. It is located on an internal wall, in a room that is rarely cold, and I have only just noticed this is happening. I thought that it being on frost setting...
