It's not essential, it all depends on the demand. I have a combi and we have 2 bathrooms and a kitchen and it is fine. Mainly because I use my downstairs bathroom whilst everyone else is still in bed, my wife and kids use the upstairs bathroom when they get up. Admittedly it might get trickier...
