    Bamboo as a screening plant

Afternoon all, Been discusing the idea with my better half about buying bamboo as a screening plant to shade us from the neighbours. The brains of the relationship wants to know how fast it will grow, and sadly I ain't got a clue. Now I appreciate this will probably elicit the response:-...

Patio slabs / blocks directly onto old concrete

Blimey! Paving expert do look down on the 5 spot method..... Hmmm - Cheers for the advice folks... I'm starting to lean towards a wet mix now to bed the slabs onto - though if I end up leaving it till the autumn I might just go with a dry mix.... Aaaarrgghhhh!! Indecision!!! :? :? :? :?

Patio slabs / blocks directly onto old concrete

Morning folks, Just trying to decide in my head which way to go with this: - Just outside the back door is an area of smooth concrete which we're wanting to lay slabs over as it doesn't look very nice. The concrete itself is sound, no cracks or crumbling, so content to lay the slabs on...

Any ideas why my shower pump went a bit mental??

Well, after 24 hours I can say that the Salamander helpline does exactly what it says on the tin. Got an initial call back from an engineer, who recommended trying to invert the pump first (I kid you not - far too close to the magic re-boot of PC's in my opinion but hey  ) in case the...

Any ideas why my shower pump went a bit mental??

Well the whole thing went totally t1ts up last night: - the better half had a shower, and the pump refused to cut out. I switched the power off to the pump, disconnected it, checked for air locks etc, re-primed and re-connected. D*mn thing won't pump at all now :x Typical Time to ring up...

Any ideas why my shower pump went a bit mental??

Curses - was worried someone would say that. Was keeping my fingers crossed it was the pump detecting an air bubble in the pump and pumping to expell it / thinking it need priming thus pumping.... Oh well - if it plays up again I'll be on the phone to salamander grumping - thanks for the advice

Any ideas why my shower pump went a bit mental??

Morning folks, Finally got my new shower pump fitted (salamander CT55 single impeller jobbie), and the better half is happy at ebing able to have a shower (system is a gravity fed h/w cylinder & boiler affair - previously raising the c/w tank into the roof had a negligible effect on shower...

    bass speaker cabinet

OK, there are thousands of ways of doing your own DIY bass cabs, and there aren't any real "right and wrong" ways to do it. the general rule of thumb is the more airspace, the more bass resonance you'll get, and this can compensate a hell of a lot if your speakers don't go right down to sub...

How noisy are new shower pumps?

It was made by Wickes - which with hindsight was probably a mistake from the off... But hey - no harm done and I've now got all the prep work done to plumb in a proper pump now... That'll teach me for acepting free gifts when money was tight Couldn't believe how noisy the d*mn thing was -...

How noisy are new shower pumps?

Well, my weekend has been a write-off. I fitted the shower pump that my better half had been given by a work colleague, and due to the fact that it makes more noise than some diesel generators I've used in the past, I've stripped the soddin thing back out (much to the annoyance of my better half...

Should I move cold water tank to loft????

Agreed - I spent a weekend (punctuated by large volumes of Saturday night beverages) raising my tank into the loft and it made a small amount of differecne, but not really enough. I'm now about to fit a pump to try that. So might be worth raising it to address noise issues - but unless you're...

fitting a pump to boost shower pressure

That's roughly what I'm planning to do, but just unsure if I need to / can have a pump powering a mixer head and a pair of separate taps for the sink - spliting it isn't a problem if I have to.

fitting a pump to boost shower pressure

Evening all, Finally pulled my finger out and started work fitting a pump to upgrade the water pressure for the bathroom. But a little unsure where to put the pump in the grand piping chain. The current setup is that the hot and cold water pipes (gravity fed h/w cylinder, mains pressure...

    Breaking a cast iron bath

LOL - that's happened to me every time I've put bits of metal by my front gate - they mysteriously "dissapear" within 24 hours  I've thus far disposed of : - Cooker, metal garden edging A bath old metal handrail (with massive lumps of concrete on it from where it was set into the...

    Minor irritations

Had a similar thing with window fitters - despite a full tour of the house when we were gutting and re-fitting it for the benefit of the window fitters ("watch out for this, be aware of that" etc) one of the dozy clampets put his foot through a place where a floorboard was up and put foot...

    shed project with a twist

I'll conceed that :( OK - bad example (and FWIW They're god-awful - sadly the police don't sem to want to clamp down on them tho) - what about beefed up stereos - install of capacitors / additional amps / bass boxes etc - all involve modifications to the 12 volt systems. I think if that was...

    shed project with a twist

Ooh - was wondering if anmyone would challenge that... OK - I feel it's none notifiable because 1) It's all 12 volt only - won't step up above that voltage, and reading the P guidance on prescotts site it states none-notifiable includes "Telephone or extra-low voltage wiring and equipment for...

    shed project with a twist

Having finshed my shed build, installed power to it, and kitted it out with kettle, little heater for the cold nights, beer fridge etc etc, I'm getting restless for a project other than doing the garden (and you can only dig / build walls / plant stuff for so many hours a day). Having...
