    Replacing Worcester Boiler Advice

Hi Everyone, We've moved into a property which currently has a Worcester Bosch 24i boiler that is running fine, but is a little old (10yrs or more) and possiblly inefficient too. We've called out installers and they have recommended:- Worcester Bosch 38CDI or a Vaillant 838. The installation...

Upvc handle turning wrong direction to lock window

Thanks for your advice crank39. I took off the handle and the lever turns both counter and anti-counter 90°, so it's actually nothing to do with the handle after all. The issue seems to be with the lock mechanism within the window which only allowing the window handle to turn 90° clockwise and...

Upvc handle turning wrong direction to lock window

Hi everyone, The house I've moved into has what seems to be a faulty bedroom window. In order to lock the window, the handle has to be turned 90 degrees in the opposite direction. As you can imagine, you can't lock it as the handle and the window upvc frame are touching and colliding with...

    Wood worm advice required

Thank you for your concern guys. I can reassure you gerald & stephen that I'm not letting some equipment that I've ordered cloud my judgement. After reading your article, I've decided that instead of spraying, I will simply brush it on and will make sure I have proper clothing and protection...

    Wood worm advice required

Thanks for the great article, which is interesting and yes there is a risk in using pesticide, but it's the only way for quick elimination IMO. Having said that, I plan to be extra cautious and if required will spread the work over several days and may even move my family out for a week or two...

    Wood worm advice required

Just to be clear, there is no central heating in the loft. In fact the loft is very drafty and is sealed off from the downstairs with draught excluders. But one thing that is true, is that the loft seems to be very dry.

    Wood worm advice required

The matter of fact is we're not a 100% sure if it's definitely drawing pins or woodworm and because these same type of holes appear on the floor joists too, I'm a bit suspicious as it's unlikely that someone has been puncturing the floor joists with drawing pins too. I appreciate your concern...

    Wood worm advice required

But each diluted litre covers upto 4m2 of wood surface, so 25ltrs would cover 100m2, right? Also this is just extra precaution we think the holes have been made with drawing pins.

    Wood worm advice required

Thanks gregers for your helpful advice. I know you said that the ebay stuff could be water, but it's from a reputable company that has a 100% of over 27000 feedbacks from customers, so I guess I'll take my chances and have ordered a 5Ltr gallon to cover the whole loft. I've also ordered FFP3...

Moved in - New Alarm Required.

My goodness, I was hoping that most of you members were exaggerating, but your definately right as it is a very detailed and advanced manual. I doubt it very much that I'll figure out how it connects and works.

    Loft floor advice?

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but I'm in exactly the same position as 1990 (see my other thread). You mentioned to get a proper structural engineer for a steel girder, but just as an approximate, what would this cost and how much roughly can a couple of 12ft steel girders cost? Also how...

Moved in - New Alarm Required.

That's exactly my worry. I'm just awaiting for a reply from Alert Electrical and most likely will send it back. In the meantime, is it worth taking a look and investigating the alarm, so that when I get a replacement, I'll have the advantage of knowing what to do?

Reinforcing Loft floor for heavier storage

Thanks Mike. Could you possibly please draw a diagram or show me pictures of what you mean? It'll help me make sure that I do a solid job and not a cowboy one. I need to understand exactly what directions the new joists would go, which walls they would attach to, whether I would use joist...
