    Help needed - dodgy gardeners

Maybe - I'm completely open to if there's extra work and costs, and told him that if it's necessary. I bet he didn't bank on there being thick horrid clay in the entire of the garden (it's Birmingham, UK) - to me he should've used a machine to dig it... would've been done in a day or maybe two...

    Help needed - dodgy gardeners

Sigh. I'll have a goooooood look down the cavity. I can bet they didn't fit them. They laid the block work first and put nothing in them at all, got plenty of photos to prove that - if they're required, I guess that means the walls should come down and have to be redone. If they're not required...

I'll give it a go - I don't even know if he's done anything with wall ties. I can't see anything tying the two walls together when I look down the gaps between them. Are they drilled in or something, or do they fit when you're laying the bricks etc?

I've no idea, what that a reasonable costing for it? I guess Ill ask when I see the surveyor tomorrow!

It's taken 5 weeks in total... we're in week 6 now. They had 3 people on the first week and a bit, and when the digging was completed (by hand) they then went down to 2 men. They didn't come for around 5 working days, due to a constant week of torrential rain we had - we have really heavy clay...

Maybe. Its on the electoral roll for 2019 and a few other more historic websites too of public record.

Cheers. Yes I was using the comments here as a reference and for what to look out for. Luckily the person I've asked to take a look is a chartered surveyor of a well known local registered landscaping firm! I didn't know he was a surveyor (he's a friend of a friend etc - looking for someone...

I usually use CheckAtrade as that's endorsed by trading standards in most places and that's done me well in the past. I tried it this time, but no-one really got back to me about the work and had to go elsewhere. I won't be sending him a penny until the work has been completed to the reasonable...

Yeah i thought the "spoken to a solicitor" thing is rubbish. It wouldn't bother me if he had because the quality of the work was up to scratch he wouldn't have to worry, and get angry about it. He could just say "ok there's some issues... lets resolve them" instead he starts of shouting and...

    Help needed - dodgy gardeners

Wish I'd read this first. He's come around to take photos and then had a go at me (as I expected). He'd cited that he's "spoken" to a solicitor and that me saying that the work was finished and all set in on Friday (when he left) means that I said I was happy with the work and that I have to pay...

Thanks for the comments. We're about a brick's worth over our right hand neighbour... as we all have garages out the back, the garage on the right of the whole picture photo is the neighbours. He's not gone within 2 bricks of his DPC, so we're roughly one bricks worth higher. It required us to...

Thanks for the response. The builder assured us that the gravel in the drain wouldn't pose an issue. I then stated I'm concerned it'll go down the drain and he said it'll be fine as there's a metal grate (the original) down there. Now I can hear it's going down there and it's obviously sinking...

    Pressure Washing Patio Slabs

Work as much as you can with the washer to wash the grim away from the wall... Start closest to the wall and work away. After washing use a stiff broom and brush the water and grime in the direction where you want it to go. It might take a little effort but keep it up and you'll have to do it...

Final photo... "finished garden". The walls look fine, and we're going to spread that topsoil around and start planting. Otherwise when you look close things aren't level, pointing isn't done, the bricks are coming off the steps, the drains are blocked, the path isn't stable, all of the slabs...

Further photos...mostly of the path, wall and the top garage. I'll get a whole picture in too. I've had excellent work done in the past by different people (especially plumbers and heating engineers). This is our first foray into gardening/building as this is our first house and it's been long...

Thanks for the reassurance. I will post some pictures of the bottom here. We have paid roughly half for materials, but not for labour. We don't intend to pay until the work's complete anyway, and I understand I'm in within our consumer rights to withhold until it's sorted and I have to allow the...

    Help needed - dodgy gardeners

Hello, This is my first post, but I'm pretty desperate and a little afraid! Over the past 5 weeks we've employed a gardener/builder to do some landscaping on our garden. We have a 1960s mid terrace property which hasn't had the garden remodelled in decades. We wanted extra space by replacing a...
