Thanks for quick reply - hadn't considered a better blade for the circular saw. Also wanted to use my new shiny saw! Will look into the shop cutting it for me. Thanks again

    Best way to cut 23 pieces of 2440mm * 1220mm * 12mm plywood

Hi all, This may seem a pretty silly question, but... I am going to buy 23 pieces of 2440mm * 1220mm * 12mm plywood to put on our floorboards before putting wooden floors down. I have decided on 12mm rather than 6mm or 9mm because of the extra thickness will help even out the floorboards...

Advice for fitting 18mm Oak T&G flooring on floorboards.

I have a question regarding thickness of ply. From what I understand 6mm is the minimum and thicker if the floorboards and less level. Our flat is a first floor conversion and I am worried about sound insulation. My gut feeling is that the thicker the ply the better. I may be wrong but it...

Concrete rectangle in first floor bedroom

@tim00 Thanks again for coming back. The corner is definitely that high, the skirting has gone now but I do remember the end of it looking odd, i.e. cut out. @RedHerring2 Thanks for the advice. I quite like Bosch tools myself. Again, thanks all for your help on this but I think this...

Concrete rectangle in first floor bedroom

Thanks for coming back to me. Sounds a bit like using a split on a broken leg then?

Concrete rectangle in first floor bedroom

Thanks RedHerring2, that's exactly the advice I was after. I like the idea of being able to cut a bit away at a time, rather than use brute force of a hammer/breaker. What size should I get, 4.5 inch be enough? I don't want to overdo it nor do I want to spend months doing it... Can...

Concrete rectangle in first floor bedroom

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, really appreciate you all taking the time to help me. Don't mind you saying at all. Thanks for taking the time to advice. The more advice the better. To me a drill seems like it would be far more gentle and controllable then the other two tools I...

Concrete rectangle in first floor bedroom

Thanks for your help Ivor. I had taken up one board as you can see but I haven't being able to tell how think it is. There are some wires going though the joist about halfway up and it looks like they are in the slab too. I don't want to remove the slab, "just" reduce its height by 35mm...

Concrete rectangle in first floor bedroom

Hi all, I want to lay a wooden floor in the back bedroom. After taking up the carpet I noticed a concrete rectangle about 143cm * 63cm in one corner against a chimney breast. My plumber says this was probably a fireplace at one point. The problem is that it isn't level and slopes up...

Advice for fitting 18mm Oak T&G flooring on floorboards.

Thanks for the warning! Many of the reviews mentioned that there were short pieces, but were fairly positive overall. I will give your website a look over and probably come back with more questions! Thanks again, Ian

Advice for fitting 18mm Oak T&G flooring on floorboards.

Hello all, For some time my partner has been wanting to have wooden floors instead of carpet. I finally agreed when our 7 month old vomited on the carpet... Anyway, Wickes have an offer on Solid Wood Flooring Oak at the moment so I thought now is the time to buy. From my research so far...

Floor sound insulation question, plasterboard and ply

Yes, it is a converted flat. Didn't put us off as it was a much larger flat then others we had seen for a similar price. I am coming around to the idea of the PB/PLY over the rest of the flat. Would defo make the floor boards more even and hopefully be able to sort of the creaking boards at...

Floor sound insulation question, plasterboard and ply

That's the hardest thing to conclude - given how hard it would be measure the before and after results, i.e. is it quieter now because of the work or because they are now longer being noisy. I imagine it would be very hard work and quite disruptive - certainly not relishing it. Thanks again,

Floor sound insulation question, plasterboard and ply

Thanks for the picture, looks really good. You are right about the sound, most of the time its not a problem - rarley is to be honest. But, what I don't want to do it rip up that stuff and cause a problem. If possible I would prefer the flat to be on one level. For one thing it would look...

I didn't notice that they use the same photos! I think I will look to see if the chimney is playing a part.

Floor sound insulation question, plasterboard and ply

Thanks for your reply - I was hoping people would come back and say rip it up :(. For those who don't know what that means please could you elaborate! Is it likely that sound could travel up the chimney breast in the room? Cheers Ian

Floor sound insulation question, plasterboard and ply

Hello all, We moved into our first floor flat Sep 2008 and noticed the master bedroom's carpet was raised by around an inch and horrid - so we binned it . After removing the carpet and underlay we noticed that there was plywood with what looks like plasterboard underneath. This was put...

Cupboard on corner of two external walls condensation

Pretty sure it was condensation and not from the outside. The walls are very cold and with no airflow in the cupboard I can see why it happened. Will look into ways of insulating the walls.
