    Ratchet Crimpers

maybe, they do tend to wear and the TLC ones despite being of a good enough quality are still at the cheaper end of what is available so they only have a finite life on them.. i suspect they wear on the pivots. I had to change a pair last year, because they started to get free play and I...

    Ratchet Crimpers

just a theory lol, but... these crimpers can be calibrated, i thought thats why it has a screw you can undo, and a plate that twists around to increase or decrease the point when the ratchet releases? so, could it be you gradually crimp on the ratchet to the point it releases, rather than...

    Ratchet Crimpers

Im surprised that nobody has mentioned that the way the jaws work on the ratchet crimpers means its possible to exert a higher force on the jaws when criming than a non ratchet crimper. It pivots in 2 places. if you want to undo a tight bolt, or nut.. you use a pry bar, to get a higher...

confused Cable size required for new electric cooker

What sized cable is currently running to the cooker point in the kitchen? What is the length of the cable from the cooker point back to the consumer unit? How is the cable run? is it clipped, run through insulation, etc? Likely to need at least 10mm, but its dependant on varying...

    Consumer Unit Stacking Kits

Might phone up Hager and ask them about mounting vertical, not really my preference though lol but looked into it and their 3 phase RCBOs are a different part number to the single phase RCBO. MCBs are the same part number though Otherwise think only other option would be to go for complete...

    Consumer Unit Stacking Kits

Hi, Yep, I know what you mean lol, which brings me back to original question... stacker kit, or RCBOs.. just RCBOs will add circa £150-180 to the cost.. hmm.

    Consumer Unit Stacking Kits

These detectors have a light on every detector to indicate charging, and when the voltage in the backup drops too much they start bleeping.

    Consumer Unit Stacking Kits

interestingly enough I was reading a debate earlier on the IET forums about that... when i was looking for a solution lol. It seemed to be a split oppinion issue... with some arguing theres no problem with it, and others saying that its against manufacturers installation instructions and that...

Condensation on the inside of all windows

We hang them in the bathroom normally, there is a humidistat fan in there.. so shutting the door, the humidistat fan kicks in and solved the condensation problem, but agreed about the amount of moisture it introduces into the air... damages radiators and wallpaper behind radiators tend to peel...

why is there no earth terminal ashley j803

it can be annoying if its screwed to the side of the joist.. cover keeps falling down lol unless removed completely of course. 1 solution I found was to stick the lid open with blu-tack while I work on it.

why is there no earth terminal ashley j803

oh I use those as well! lol for downlighters.. loop in and loop out with the radial, then flex out to the downlighter. only reason I use the bigger brother J804 is for its maintenance free properties. then I use the downlighter junction box, J501 for the downlighter itself as its small...

why is there no earth terminal ashley j803

I love these also :) sometimes used them for lighting where no ceiling rose is present for the switch loop. for reference to original poster, 4 way ones are used for lighting mostly as the 4th terminal is to allow for the switch loop. and 3 way ones, live, neutral, earth.. 3 connections...

Terminating a live cable under floorboards

2 options, that are acceptable. Cage Clamp Wagos (ones with orange lever) terminated in a Wago Box with MF logo on it... the push fit ones are probably also acceptable... but my preference would be the level type. Or, Ashley 3 way maintenance free junction box, also with MF maintenance...
