    Northern Lights

I have seen them many times from various parts of Scotland. The best view I ever had of them was in December 2003 at a place called Cape Wrath. It was spectacular, as Pred says it was like a billowing green, blue and yellow drape flowing across the sky. One of Natures natural, wonderful beauties.

    Luck, does it rub off?

Are these machines not programmed to have a % payout based on the amount deposited though? Or is that a myth. I hear that a lot and some machines have a sticker that shows a guaranteed payout rate. I don't know much about these machines as avoid them completely but would be interested if anyone...

Babes in arms at the olympics

Just been announced that it's now 5 times that nothing. Bloody waste of time, money and effort.

    The benefit cap.

My view on modern politics is that no matter how sensible the proposal from the governing party, the opposition (aptly) feels it is their duty to oppose it on the general principle of being the opposition. I often think that the commons resemble my wee lad's Toddlers group, except the toddlers...

    The benefit cap.

I'm definitely not a have, by any means. Both my wife and I work hard to support our son, we get no help or benefits and, luckily (but through tragic circumstances) own our home outright. I know it's not worth what the market would try to have me believe but I also don't feel that we paid...

Agreed, maybe then the real work-shy will be exposed - if it's rebuilt sensibly.

    Getting older

I suddenly feel out of place at a mere 33... If it counts though I have the knees of a 70 year old (surgeons professional opinion) :D MHR for yesterday Matt1e

    The benefit cap.

Truth is blatant, no matter who is in power the benefits merry-go-round will never stop. The hole that has been dug is too deep. Simple. I know too many people that it pays more not to work than it does for them to get off their lazy @rses to even look for work. Example, I work 40+ hours...

    UK debt hits 1 trillion

It seems we are officially farked, so in that case I'm spending the remaining money I have (or can make until we implode) on beer and golf... In that order, should make for an interesting round

Oh yeah, those resurrection injuries must be giving him some gyp... (I just realised, can my comments be construed as religiously prejudiced?)

    Best Put-Downs?

In a meeting, one manager put forward a phenomenally stupid idea. Our director turned totally deadpan and said, "If you applied to the circus as a clown you would fail the interview for being over-qualified!" Brilliant

    The view from your window

As we have just been battered by heavy snow I now have a rather lovely vista to cast my eye over... Sometimes the countryside in Scotland CAN be beautiful.

    The view from your window

I went the opposite way Alarm, I lived in the city for most of my life and got tired of more and more houses springing up, til one day I opened the blinds and realised that, for as far as my eye could see, I was completely surrounded by people that overlooked my house, my garden and, in the case...

    The view from your window

Fields left, right and behind and a lovely old 17th Century Farmhouse over the road. View in the distance is of the local village, church spire looks amazing on a bright, frosty morning. Only recently did "Johnny Big-Build" try to buy one of the fields for an "executive development" and the...

Best way to remove tile adhesive

That's a good idea though, if I can get enough of it off to be able to either sand and skim or just skim the walls then that would be great. And I just bought a steamer to redecorate the living room :) Many thanks

Best way to remove tile adhesive

Thanks, tiles look like they have been there for a "number" of years (extension where bathroom is was built 35 years ago and I would bet not much has been done since) I'm ok with plastering, but would I just plaster over the old adhesive or best to attempt to chisel it off?

Best way to remove tile adhesive

Hi all, At the minute my whole bathroom is tiled floor to ceiling in 200x200 tiles and, frankly, it's horrible. So... I intend to remove ALL of the tiles and replace the ones only around the bath and shower area (using larger 485x340 tiles) so my question is this; What is the best way to...
