Switched live wire for lights - colour coding

Hello Bernard, The regs state 'so long as it is clearly identifiable for testing, inspection, repair or alteration, and its durable.' Which these 'idents' are in my opinion, I am not sure about what 'complying' with BS3858 involves though to be honest. I have used these in panel wiring...

    Polarity Reversing At Will

Hello, Just trying to understand this,(please help), I would have expected (wrongly  ) the RCD to trip when the lightswitch caused the reversal, this would not cause any 'imbalance', even if only for a split second at all ????? Thanks.

    Ha, ha!

My mate Denis had a g/f named Sandra... He was busy daubing "Sandra loves Denis ", but got a bit carried away and 'oversprayed' the beggining of his name, which caused the paint on the 'D' to run, turning it to a 'P'.

    SWA Gland Eath Tag Connection

Hello RF, I can recall using something like you are describing, and yes it was a long long time ago  . Would I be right in thinking they were sometimes used on conduit systems, (perhaps when using the conduit as an earth) ?? c/o 1987   Not seen one for a while now !

    Ha, ha!

His mates probably took the p*ss , which, in turn ,drove him to commit more mindless vandalism to build his 'cred' back up. !!!! Is he meaning 'jam' as in bread and jam, do you think ? ( wonder which flavour if so? ) Surely he doesn't mean the pop group as they were 'The Jam' , or maybe he...

    Methods of Installation.

Hello All, Out of curiosity, lets say you are running a twin and earth cable from the CU in conduit (up 2m into a ceiling), clipping it to a joist in an insulated loft, then inside capping down to a 'point', which method would you consider it ? Thanks for any advice.

    electric oven problem

Hello ricicle, Does the socket have to be RCD protected if it is not expected to be used for outside portable equipment, or should you presume that all ground floor sockets could be used for this purpose ? Maybe the electrician has mixed up the 'shower' and 'cooker' neutrals ( they may be...

    certificates for fire alarms

Hello mst, I do opologise. The memory starts to fade at my age ! When I paid the NIC for membership (which I didn't need to  ) they DID issue me with a pad of certs. ( not too complicated either if you have that BS 5839-6;2004 to help you on the gradings and categorys etc)...

    electric oven problem

Hello, An RCD will detect an 'imbalance' between phase and neutral ,but does not give overload protection, a MCB gives overload protection. An RCCB does both.

    is this fair ??

Confused 2. I don't think it needs to end up as a slanging match either. I am not saying that I think it is your fault alone that you've ended up in this awkward situation !, I think the electrician is at fault too, and should have kept you informed of any changes in rates, (and you both...

Hello. Mabe you should have written " The electrician doing work for me has put his prices up 20% in the past year, and because of the length of contract( 1yr), and lack of communication(throughout the contract) and written, clear 'price agreements' (before the job started) I feel like I am...
