Hi I bought a voltage tester probe and found that there was 110V on the metal front plate of a switched spur fitted right next to the metal light switch - this may be where the tingling feeling is coming from ???? I removed the fused spur ( not being used - no fuse installed - not sure...

yes there is a plastic back box in situ and I can see and earth wire come in and go out from the earthing point which I assume is the earth wire looping in and out. The earthing wire tail which I mentioned is connected to the same common screw connection.

Hi I had to replace a faulty 2 gang metal dimmer switch with a 2 gang metal light switch. I replaced the live and the switched lives one for one and made sure that the metal plate was earthed in the same way as the original dimmer switch. The replacement switch worked as planned and...

Cracked Pointing on top of wall above expansion joint

Cracked Pointing on top of wall above expansion joint

Morning I have a concrete block on flat ( 215mm thick ) wall which is finished on top with pre cast concrete coping stones. The wall has expansion joints every 6m. Near one particular expansion the pointing keeps cracking right the way across from front to back - has been pointed twice now...

Best way to secure a Steel Plate to a Concrete Floor ?

Yes from what I can see you drill the hole in the concrete, drop the anchor in. You then use a setting tool together with a hammer to expand the bottom of the anchor which secures it in place. Job done !

Best way to secure a Steel Plate to a Concrete Floor ?

Ceiling Repair - Fill/Tape or Skim Coat - Which is the best?

Micilin Very interesting ! So if you were going to skim coat a complete new house should the plasterboard be left with a 3mm to 4mm gap between each of the sheets for the skim coat to extrude through ? I take it that this thin 3mm to 4mm would be strong enough and not crack and then...

Ceiling Repair - Fill/Tape or Skim Coat - Which is the best?

Hi Richard C Many thanks for your reply. I am absolutely going to get someone to do this. The reason for my questions was to see if what I was thinking about doing was sensible and the best way forward. I have watched plasterers in sheer awe at what they can do. It is a true art form in...

Ceiling Repair - Fill/Tape or Skim Coat - Which is the best?

Hi Richard C I have another question for you ! There is one edge of the ceiling which stops at the edge of the stairwell. At this point the ceiling plasterboard runs right to this edge where it forms a 90 deg join with another sheet of plasterboard which goes straight up ! I hope...
