Vaillant VRC430 - what works and what doesn't?

Thanks for the info. Ignore the end of my post in the other thread. When you say you have an open vent boiler, do you mean you have a separate pressure vessel? I don't want to get into the history, but I had my first condensing boiler fitted about 18 years ago. Into an open vent system...

What's the switching differential on that? The Drayton technical pdf dosn't give it.

Pressure slowly dropping in sealed system

If your pressure relief valve has released water it needs replacing. They have a knife edge seal that is incredibly easily damaged if it passes water for any reason. I had the same symptoms you describe after my system installer's maintainance guy drained the system using the relief valve. It...

    programmable room stat

I had Eco DTR2's which are the same as the Horstmann and found I couldn't live with the greater than 1 C switching differential. I had to change them for Grasslin Famoso 1000's with a sub 0.5 C switching differential.

Pressure rising from 0 to over 3 bar when heating is on

I just like to add if the pressure relief valve has been opened for any reason you should replace it as they have a knife edge seal that is increadibly easily damaged by debris and will leak at odd intervals once opened. I speak from hard earned experience here.

    Vaillant VRC 430

I'm interested to know in what way it doesn't work very well. The flow is heated according to the desired flow temperature and circulated at that temperature with TRV's turning off rads as room temperature is reached. That's how my rads work so at some point the boiler is heating just the...

    Vaillant VRC 430

I'm not sure what you mean by "if the max power is too high" What max power do you refer to? The output will be 8kw unless the demand is higher and it will modulate accordingly. ie you have enough rads or underfloor circuits or big enough coil in your HW cylinder to pull heat from the system...

Anyone know of a low differential programmable thermostat?

After reading lots of tech information pdfs I bought a Grasslin Famoso 1000 and that has a 0.25 C switching differential but is also has an integral compensation program that keeps the differential close to 0.1 C after it starts running the heating demand. Absolutely brilliant. My only...

    Open Fire

You can get modern woodburners that are OK for smokless zones as they burn totally cleanly. You would need to look at the manufacturers recomendations for the flue. A specialist shop would be able to advise you on an inspection of your flue. If you just want an open fire try it and see as...

Anyone know of a low differential programmable thermostat?

Thanks. Looking at the Honywell pdf seems to say the differential is + or - 0.5 C which is the same as the ones I have. It does not mention an ability to set it to 0.25 C Is that correct? I should say I want to use it as a two wire on off thermostat into an EZC-12 Microcenter, and I need 5.

    Vaillant VRC 430

The boiler should modulate down to 8kw so it shouldn't matter about the size of boiler. I read here that they only have one size of that model boiler running different software anyway. I have a VRC 430 and I've never seen that behaviour. My flow controls are set to max on the boiler as per...

Anyone know of a low differential programmable thermostat?

I've been trying find a programmable theromstat with a better than 0.5 C differential. My present ones if set to 19.5 C, rise to 20.1 C then turn off and come back on at 18.4 C This gives too long on and off periods with the temperature being too hot then too cold. Thanks. Roy

Solid Oak Flooring 120 mm wide 22mm depth expansion problem

Assuming you want to taking out lengths, screw a batten to the floor and use a circular saw set very close to the thickness of the wood. Finish the end of the cut with a floorboard saw. I'm a bit puzzled because if you don't think it's necessary to remove the buckled section why not just...

Solid Oak Flooring 120 mm wide 22mm depth expansion problem

You are going need to lift the buckled section anyway so could you not deal with the need to create an expansion gap then?

Solid Oak Flooring 120 mm wide 22mm depth expansion problem

Maybe he did leave a gap and the floor has expanded too much The original post says the oak has hard vinyl tile stuck on top. Are there two layers or just one underneath? Is there material in the wall that could be chiseled out? You don't need much, by the sound of it 6 mm would do. Other...

    Loft insulation advice

Maybe the concern is the vapour barrier in the form of a bitumen roof between the room and the insulation, in which case you could paint on a vapour barrier on the underside of the ceiling as a precaution. Personally I'd take up the chipboard covering and insulate between the joists add some...

    Loft insulation advice

Air immediately under a ceiling is relatively hot so I doubt that you would get condensation forming in the void as that would only happen when the warm air meets cold and starts to cool down. Most likely to happen in the roof space proper hence the need for ventilation which you have. I take...

Advice Please On Problems with Screed for UFH!

I had costs for both types when I did my kitchen and the finished cost was £400 for a properly laid flooring screed and £2000 for an anhydride screed. I think for commercial projects with big floor areas it could be cost effective but not on small jobs. As for the courts upholding a claim...
