    Re-lay engineered wood floor

I have a large expanse of maple engineered wooden floor that may have to come up due to potential central heating leak. My question is how realistic is it to take the floor up and re-lay it in such a way that it looks as good as it does now? The boards are laid on top of a solid concrete floor...

    Closed System Leak

Hi all, thanks for the replies so far. I tried the leak sealer over the weekend without any success. If anything the rate of leakage seems to have accelerated!!! There are definitely no leaks in and around the boiler itself. I'm coming to the conclusion that I may have to call in the...

    Closed System Leak

Hi Chris, yes the tap water is from a tank in the loft (via a water softener). What test would I need to conduct to determine if the leak was in the hot water cylinder. I've determined that 1.0 to 0.6 bar is 1 1/4 pints. If I use either DHW or CH the rate of leak is higher (not measured)...

tiling on WPB ply - problems

FYI, I have some new ply to tile onto. I'm using BAL adhesives and when I phoned their technical helpline last week they said to NOT seal new ply or plaster. The only preparation they recommended was to ensure that the surface was completely dust free.

    Closed System Leak

I have a Worcester Bosch R28 HE system condensing boiler, i.e. a "closed" system. I think I have a leak in the system although there are no immediate signs of this. Without me using the bolier at all (use immersion heater for water, room thermostat right down so no chance of heating coming...

    "Normal" Temperature for Hot Water

I run mine at 55 C. If we heat it up much more we always end up adding cold water for washing up etc. My view is if I need to add cold water to cool it down, why heat it up that much in the first place?

    Push-fit fittings

I'm changing the towel rail in an en-suite. The position of the central heating pipes needs to be changed. I've cut back the current pipes from under the floor and used push fit maintenance valves as a holding position until I get round to finishing the job. My question is, given that the system...

    SELV extractor fans for zone1

I have one of the Vent Axia fans. It's quiet, good looking, IP57 and humidity controlled. I would highly recommend it. Details at http://www.vent-axia.com/awwebstore/products/domestic/luminairfanlight.asp Steve

    How long before tiling?

Thanks Ty, I used Unibond PVA in 5:1 Water/PVA as a sealer first and then a 3:1 PVA/water and plastered whilst this was still tacky so hopefully bond strength will be good. Steve

    Central Heating Leak Sealer

I know the one you mean, I'll check it out. It rises from about 1 bar cold to 2 bar hot. According to the gauge this is within operating range (as signified by the green shading)

    Central Heating Leak Sealer

Where would I find the pressure relief pipe? The boiler is a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28HE if that helps.

    Central Heating Leak Sealer

It's definitely stainless, I've tried the magnet test. The house was built in 1971 and I'm told there was a copper shortage at that time and the builder used stainless instead.

    Central Heating Leak Sealer

Hopefully not as the pipes seem to be mostly stainless??? Previous big leak was caused by a fitting that had completely fractured, not corroded.

    Central Heating Leak Sealer

Has anyone used and had success with one of the central heating leak sealers? My sealed system has started to lose approx 0.5bar over a 4/5 day period. I can find no leaks. My concern is that the leak is on the downstairs level where all the pipework for the system is buried in the concrete...

    How long before tiling?

I've put a thin (approx 2mm) coat of plaster on the walls in an en-suite shower room over the weekend. This morning the plaster appears to be dry, no "dark" patches. Typically how long do you guys leave a freshly plastered wall prior to tiling to ensure good adhesion? Thanks Steve

    Fitting WC Pan

Thanks guys for the ideas. I'll have a think and see what the best solution is. One further question. Would it be OK to use self levelling compound on chipboard, I'm using the green moisture resistent stuff. Thanks Steve

    Fitting WC Pan

I have a bit of a challenge in my en-suite that is causing me some headaches in working out what to do. The floor is not square to the wall (no surprise there really) but the margin of error is quite significant. The joists run parallel to the wall. The problem is that there is a "drop" from...
