I have a side entry ball cock and valve in an upstairs loo. The water is supplied from the cold water tank in loft. It is very slow filling. Is there a better type of valve that might increase the rate of fill please? The present valve is a conventional copper one. Jim

Just to report back that I seem to have cured the leak by reducing the mains water pressure by not opening the gate valve so much. I looked for leaks as suggested but couldnt locate any. I converted the machine to cold feed a while ago with a y piece.It all seems fine now. Thanks for help. Jim

I have been trying to undo the body of a washbasin tap to change the washer. Its the enclosed type with the plastic shroud. Having removed the shroud ;applied wd40;applied heat from a hairdryer and from a paint stripper, I still cant move it no matter how much force I apply. Any other ideas...

When asking about replacing my brake pads I was told that as my discs were "lipped" I should replace them as well. Does this sound right or is it a way of the company earning more profit. It is the first set of pads since the car was new in 2000(Volvo V70). Any views please ? Jim

Is there an easy way to clear silted up soakaways without digging up the ground around the area ? My understanding is that they are 9 feet away from the house and probably connected thro the old earthenware type pipes.The angles are a bit difficult to get rods in. Jim

Thanks for the comments. An independent diagnosis found it was the idle control motor and the job is done and dusted. So much for Volco dealers !!!! Jim

I have an intermittent problem with the near side electric window and the near side electric wing mirror. The window works occasionally,the mirror never. Have removed door panel and fiddled with the wiring to no avail.Any ideas please. Jim

I wonder whether the thingy is a release valve for an old back boiler in case the back boiler got too hot. I used to have such a system in an old house. Jim

By some quirk my wife managed to put a cloth with white spirit in it in the washing machine. It ruined the other things being washed and the machine smells to high heaven. Any ideas please to get rid of smell. Jim
