Well he did check the water flow and gas meter. He stayed about 20-30 mins. I assume they take out the old boiler as part of the job (am I right?) I would also keep the old emertion tank because of the copper scrap value ;-) LOL

But when your spending that amount of cash it's sensible to get a good price. 3 grand to me is a lot of money.

This old Vulcan boiler is on it's way out I know as not only has the pump stuck but the copper pipe coming out of the pump to the right is dripping water on the bend. What do I do to drain the boiler so its dry while I seal the joint ? Please see pic below...

I have measured the outside length of my house and the outside width which gives me 38ft 5 " X 13 ft. Upstairs is not as long as downstairs so I assume I multiply the outside measurements ? The reason I ask is that the calculator isn't very clear on which measurements are used, upstairs or down.

Do any plumbers on here know roughly how much a basic check or service would cost for this old thing. As there is corrosion around the base, is there a chance it could explode? The pump if left for a while will work but if it started soon after the last time it was on it sticks. I don't want...

There is a vent on the back of it that goes outside the house. It was checked by the guy who fitted the meter.

I have a very old Vulcan boiler and now the pump sticks more often resulting in a sharp hit on the side to get it going again. Because this is happening more often It has started to weep around the pipe join and rusting a bit. I would appreciate it if anyone who knows about this kind of thing...

The chimney breast in my loft has mortar like powder, in some areas bricks are missing as well as large gaps. When I scrape away the mortar it's like dust.
