A little confused about turning the hot water off..

Sorry, one other question! How do I drain the cylinder? I need to fit an essex flange so need to drain it enough to not cause a flood!

A little confused about turning the hot water off..

Ok, cool, i'll get another one of those. Thanks. I think i'd struggle getting another one in above the cylinder, so may as well replace the old one complete. Will save me cutting more pipes as well!

A little confused about turning the hot water off..

Actually one other question - what's the best valve to get to replace the old one with? I need to drain the cold water tank anyway to fit another outlet, so may as well replace that valve at the same time.

A little confused about turning the hot water off..

Hi all, i've been doing a bit of DIY plumbing, mainly fitting a new bath and sinks. The first time I turned the water off, hot & cold, I turned off the mains, then turned off the gate valve supplying the hot water cylinder from the cold water tank. I ran the cold water for a bit and it...

Any difference between soil pipe and vent pipe?

Hi ree, thanks so much for your help. I thought it was weird that the water run that way, but the arrows are definitely correct, at least that's which way everything runs when I flush the toilet. Good idea about linking it across to the existing soil pipe!

Any difference between soil pipe and vent pipe?

yes it will be moved to basically where that first waste pipe comes out which runs into the drain (that will be removed)

Any difference between soil pipe and vent pipe?

Hi all, thanks for your replies, i've added another 2 photos below. I flushed the toilet to see where the water would run, and marked the photo up. This is a bungalow (with a basement) so there is nothing above, as you can see in the 2nd photo. Hope this helps. One other question - why...

Any difference between soil pipe and vent pipe?

Hi all, I want to move our toilet a couple of meters along. Currently the soil pipe goes out the back of the toilet to the outside and straight into the ground. A foot or so to the right of that soil pipe is a soil vent pipe which comes straight out of the ground. If I move the toilet along...

Cutting floor joists to run soil pipe through..

Been in touch with a building control officer, and they say that a sleeper wall to rest the cut joists on would suffice. That would save doubling up the full-length joists and adding trimmer joists. Anybody have anything to add?

Making good side walls after knocking wall down..

No! I do hope not anyway ;) There are no walls above, and although the joists run across one of them they weren't resting on it.

Cutting floor joists to run soil pipe through..

Or, isn't something like this possible? http://hostedmedia.reimanpub.com/TFH/Step-By-Step/FH00JAU_JOIWOR_06.JPG http://www.homeownersnetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/R802.9-ceiling-joist-rafter-opening-less-4-ft1.jpg

Cutting floor joists to run soil pipe through..

Gosh, that does sound like some considerable effort! What about propping up the joist and bolting it to the concrete below either side of the gap which is cut out of it wide enough for the pipe? Would that not prevent downward and sideways movement? Does that make sense, or shall i draw a...

Cutting floor joists to run soil pipe through..

Hmm, damn, ok thanks Tony. Any other ideas of how we could get the soil pipe out rather than run it round the room? Or is this a question better asked in the plumbing forum?

Making good side walls after knocking wall down..

Hi, we've knocked a couple of walls down in our house. They are brickwalls, and so have left quite a mess at the sides where they met the joining walls at either end. What's the best way to make these edges good? The holes left are pretty deep, so i'm thinking fill it in with mortar, then...

Cutting floor joists to run soil pipe through..

Hi all, i'm looking to relocate our toilet to the other side of the bathroom, backing on to an interior wall. Preferably i'd like to keep the soil pipe hidden, without having to run it around the room to the opposite side where the exterior wall and the existing soil pipe is. So, i'd like to...
