Making good side walls after knocking wall down..

Hi, we've knocked a couple of walls down in our house. They are brickwalls, and so have left quite a mess at the sides where they met the joining walls at either end.

What's the best way to make these edges good? The holes left are pretty deep, so i'm thinking fill it in with mortar, then skim with plaster to make good?

If you don't want to see where the walls were I would get a plasterer to fill in deep 'holes' then skim whole wall.
The finished walls will look so much better than trying to blend the patch.
 
These walls weren't load bearing were they?
