    Retro Fit Dry Verge

Ahha, I'm not alone ! Have only 'dry run' fitted two sample ones, was wondering how they reckoned a screw on that bottom lip and the top edge locating under the overlapping tile would secure them enough ? Though about putting a screw though the 'batten' holes either a long one...

Hot water heating with central heating

Hi, Have a conventional boiler rated at 30-40,000 btu with 2 zone indirect heating to rads and hot water tank. The rads have a total max load of 22,000 btu Have generally always heated the hot water separately before the rads come on in the morning. Are we really doing that wrong...

Dry Verge - Klober v Marley

Yes, sounds a bit suspect, and the 10 year gtee is probably less than a good mortar rebedding. Seems there are GFS on ebay but believe you need the alkali resistant type which they say they are not. Any suggestion if / where small amounts can be purchased or it is a trade bulk buy thing...

Dry Verge - Klober v Marley

Even searching this forum for verge mortar mixes you get every possible combination of building or sharp sand only or every possible mix ratio of the two ! However Plastering Sand is a new one to me, believe it is is graded mix of sharp and building sand ? Would you suggest I use a 50/50...

Dry Verge - Klober v Marley

Hi, Good points, and thinking more towards wet than dry now. Seems 3:1 with a bit of pva or sbc is the way to go ..? - but which sand, soft or sharp or a mix ? Used sharp on my verge and its lasted much longer than neighbours soft sand verges. Just to change things even more...

Dry Verge - Klober v Marley

Really ?? - I thought that was the whole point of the segmental dry verges. So you are saying not so.. is that more from wind damage or plastic degradation / discolouring ? Must confess my original old fashioned thoughts were to repoint, but it seems the more fashionable thing to fit the...

Dry Verge - Klober v Marley

Hi, Would appreciate some help on these two points for a retrofit. For a Marley Modern tiled roof there are the single tile type of close fitting Marley verge units but depending on your view the Klober ones do seem a bit more pleasing to the eye. Is there any important differences...

    Marley moderns Eaves Clips

Hi, Have not had any major tile slips but with the winds and weather getting so much worse these days wondered if they might be a prudent measure. I do mean eaves clips to the bottom row of tiles, verge clips are intact, though not sure how often they have actually fixed the tile batten...

    Marley moderns Eaves Clips

Hi, Just been fitting Eaves trays to my 30 year old roof and did not find a single eaves clip or a batten clip on the second row up. Think the whole Barratt estate will be like this. Looked at Marleys site and they say eaves clips should be fitted. Is it worth going back up and...

    Wet to Dry eave upgrade.

Hi, Just got a sample standard Manthorpe one and an Elite/Harcon to compare. Virtually the same size but the Elite has the 70mm depth v the 30 mm of the popular Manthorpe or Klober designs. The Elite seems a little lighter in construction though suppose it depends on the toughness of the...

    Wet to Dry eave upgrade.

Hi, Yes there is, its made by Elite and also sold under the Harcon name. You might find some at a local roofing supplier or a couple of places online. http://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/pitched-roofing/dry-verge/corovent-dvs-dry-verge-retro-fit.html As to how good they are ...

    Retro Fit Dry Verge

Hi, Wondered if anyone had experience of the Elite / Harcon type of Retrofit dry verge units ? They would seem a simple solution v knocking out all the mortar etc ? http://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/pitched-roofing/dry-verge/corovent-dvs-dry-verge-retro-fit.html

    repairing verges

Hi, Had already looked at Manthopre, assume you mean running a battern lengthwise from the eaves to the ridge. Problem there is that the undercloak cement board and tile extend out by 54 mm from the floating rafter so little to fix to, hence looking to extend the tile battens.

Floor insulation - worth it ?

Hi, Have got a suspended timer floor (chipboard) in our small 1980s bungalow, the underside is easily accessible due to the large void at one end. Wondered how worth while insulating under it would be? Our gas heating bill is around £500 a year, so would the cost of the...

    repairing verges

Hi, Was reading the previous entries about wet v dry verges as my Marley Grey Modern wet verges are starting to crumble. Was looking for the batten extender kits, code 35800, that it was mentioned Marley did, though could not find anyone on the web stocking them - are they actually...
