Danfoss HPA2 Auto setting means the valve operates via the external controls. Sliding the silver level across it slots behind a little catch in the black plastic which is manual position. In manual it allows the valve to be open and will fire the pump and boiler ignoring external controls...

C means demand the boiler is registering demand. Likely either one of the microswitches on the hot water or heating valves are stuck on or the valve is in manual position. Check with the silver lever on the side of either valves

A little bit of gas is way less expensive than a burst with all the damage it can bring.

I'd cut the pipes and fit isolation valves. That way any problems are easily isolated and saves messing about

needs both. permanent live keeps power to the receiver all the time while you need the switch live to tell the boiler to come on. Though with a combi boiler you could do away with the timer altogether providing your wireless part of the stat is programmable. i.e you can set times aswell as...
