    Getting rid of pigeons

No, but since ultrasonic stuff seems to deter cats and teenagers (not the same product for each!) I thought there must be something similar for birds. It's pricey though.

You could try this: http://www.martleyelectronics.co.uk/silent_bird_scarer.html Claims to be silent.

Tell installer not to remove protective film on bath

That's interesting, Softus. What my installer did was to fix battens a few inches above the bath all around and start tiling above the battens. As the tiles are large, that left only six tiles - cut to height - around the edge. So, in this particular case, he could have left the film in...

Tell installer not to remove protective film on bath

The tiles that go around the edge of the bath are the last to be fitted so the bulk of the tiling can indeed be carried out with the film in situ.

Tell installer not to remove protective film on bath

Reminds me of my mother who bought a new bedside lamp and couldn't get the plug in. It was fine once I'd taken the plastic cover off the prongs.

Tell installer not to remove protective film on bath

Not too sure about this, Corgi. It would certainly look good, but if the silicone failed at some point, then water would go behind the bath. When tiles come over the edge of the bath, there's less chance of that happening. It would probably be OK if you were using it just for baths where you...

Yes, that might be an interesting test case. :D

Tell installer not to remove protective film on bath

Thanks, Softus. That's a good point. Yes, I had thought that peeling back the edge for the tiling would be preferable to removing the whole thing. I guess there's no perfect solution, though.

    Plaster, Paint and Cracks,

Just a thought - did your caulk contain silicone? (Caulk containing silicone can't be overpainted.)

    Grass Seed

If it's just a few patches, you can get a patch pack. Evergreen has one - costs a few pounds, with full instructions. You just rake the seeds in a bit and leave them to germinate. The most annoying thing about grass seed is that birds like to eat it but the Evergreen stuff contains a bird...

Tell installer not to remove protective film on bath

Here's a little tip for those of you having bathroom installations done. (I've just had one done and feel I could write a whole article about how to ensure it runs more smoothly next time.) When baths - and shower trays - are delivered, they usually come with a protective plastic film. In my...

Wonderful :D Thank you. Is there any point in asking why it disappeared in the first place?

Well said, Trazor. 'Your posts' was a great feature. You could see at a glance if anyone had posted on your threads since your last visit. I really don't see why someone messed with it. I find I don't visit the forum as much now - and this is the reason.

Double glazed windows - inside misting.

Daf, I would love to be proved wrong but as I understand it, since April 2002 all replacement glazing comes within the control of the Building Regulations. From this date, anyone who installs replacement window frames or even glazed doors must comply with the strict thermal and safety...

Not only is it dull, but compared with the old version, it's useless  I really don't know why they had to meddle with it.

Double glazed windows - inside misting.

Before the new regs came in forcing us all to have double-glazed windows whether we want them or not, double-glazing was always sold on its ability to save money on heating bills. The truth is that when you factor in the cost of the windows, it's a different story. Decent wooden...
