help - kitchen and laminate and underlay??

Gosh, that sounds bad. So, if one has floorboards, is it best to lay the laminate straight over the top? (At right-angles to the floorboards, of course).

Advice on new combi boiler please

Paspatout, have a look at this picture of an Ideal Combi boiler: http://www.idealboilers.com/isar_he.html As you can see, it does exit from the top but because the boiler is so small, there'd be scope for running the outlet pipe sideways and out through the adjoining wall. I know this can...

Advice on new combi boiler please

Not sure if I understand the problem, either (not being a plumber). However . . . could you have the boiler flue exiting from the top if you had the boiler fitted lower down the wall? I say this because I accidently got a boiler fitted in this way. I said I wanted it to fit in a cupboard and...

Something to watch my back garden

Thanks, Plugwash. I must do some research on infrared cameras. I guess the reason I'm interested is that I saw an American tv programme a while back in which a person had installed a camera to id who was stealing her washing from a line in the yard. As one would expect, these things happen at...

    sticking mdf skirting

I got told off in the forum for suggesting that skirting could be stuck with this: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/10261/Sealants-Adhesives/Adhesives/Grab-Adhesives/Solvented/Gripfill-350ml Apparently, it sticks so well that if you need to remove it in the future, you'll pull the plaster off...

    painting kitchen cabinets

I'm not a pro but I've done a bit of paint-stripping in my time without any problems. If you really have stripped back to bare wood, then you should be able to repaint without problems. However, if you use oil-based primer/undercoat, then you need to use oil-based top coat (for obvious...

Something to watch my back garden

Was out in the garden today for the first time this year and found that someone had fly-tipped a metal headboard over my back fence. At present, I have no lights or cctv in the back garden and am wondering what the best solution might be to deter people from doing this again. I can't have a...

    Condensation on cupboard wall

JohnD's said it all, really, Voyager, but just to comment on the dehumidifier angle. These do remove water vapour, but they don't refresh air. You need ventilation, not just to get rid of damp air, but also to live healthily. Think of all that carbon dioxide that's hanging around, plus...

    Condensation on cupboard wall

I'm guessing you have double glazing, Voyager. If so, do you have trickle vents? Do you keep them open or closed? You can remove the mould on your walls with bleach or mould killer but unless you also do something about ventilation, the problem will return.

    Is this good practice?

Well, it is John Lewis's cheapest kitchen (still came to over 8k, inc fitting) so perhaps the fitting reflects that. If I'd spent 20k, I'd probably have Mr Rolls Royce, instead of Mr Lada-with-the-door-falling-off. To be fair, the whole job does look very nice.

    Is this good practice?

I know. I looked at the instructions for posting pics once and thought the process looked rather fiddly, but yes, you're right, I must get around to it.

Part P ignorance - am I beyond help?

Bit late to answer this, given that the OP has already told Building Control but thought I'd add my twopenceworth as I've bought 2 properties and sold one over the past couple of years. First off, anyone who buys a place is in the position of Buyer Beware. The last place I bought had loads of...

    Is this good practice?

Thanks, Guys. I thought it couldn't be right and you've all confirmed it. That's what I wanted to know. I've now complained to JL and sent them pictures. They aren't pretty. What's silly about the washer dryer is that I left them to do it because I wasn't confident enough to do it myself...

    Is this good practice?

This is really an electrical and plumbing question combined but since the electrical side is what I really want to know about, hope this is the right section. I've recentlty had a new kitchen installed (bought from John Lewis who also arranged the fitting.) Came home today and found a pool of...

Renew ceiling or save the cornice?

They're made of polymer, not polystyrene (sound of mock-vomiting noises  ) and I think they're expensive because they're easier to handle - so suitable for diy. If you're unsure, they will send samples: http://www.ukhomeinteriors.co.uk/content/faqs.php Haven't used them myself, though.

Renew ceiling or save the cornice?

Can't help you decide what to do, ripper, but if you do decide that it's going to be more cost-effective to take the old ceiling down, here's a link to a company who makes rather nice ceiling cornicing. The old stuff does look pretty ropey: http://www.ukhomeinteriors.co.uk/content/cornices.shtml
