Seems sensible. So we would need an inspection by bc before a decision is made to reuse or replace for the new extension? These foundations seem a lot more robust than the joking footings on the conservatory in our previous place.

sorry to hijack, but would the foundations have to have been inspected by BC at the time the conny was built? the previous owners to our place said ‘proper’ foundations were put in, but there’s no bc documentation. Having dug a hole, the concrete is 75cm to 25cm below ground level and the walls...

If your skirting is white and it isn’t a big gap, I would just caulk the whole perimeter. Will stop drafts and unlikely to be noticeable.

Upgrade the radiators, stop droughts & be less stingy with the heating. I’ve done that in my last 2 Victorian houses successfully. Much cheaper and less destructive than installing new ceilings.
