    Stripped floorboards in bathroom

I was planning to lay a new tiled floor in my bathroom but after removing the old flooring I've found floorboards in good condition. I can sand them off easy enough but what else do I have to do to get them ready? I've read that I need to wax them and I know they'll have to be sealed in some...

    Removing cork floor tiles

I got a bit lucky. The tiles were laid on a flimsy wood base (don't know what type of wood, same stuff you get for the back of wardrobes in flat-packs). I managed to find the edge of the floor panels and just ripped that up and only had to remove small sections of tile.

    Removing cork floor tiles

Can anyone recommend a way to remove the cork floor tiles in my bathroom? They seem a bit fiddly and at the minute, are only coming away in small pieces. I have a steamer that I could use but I can't see how the steam will get through to the adhesive. I don't need the adhesive to be completely...

    Tile edging problem

Thanks. I might have to just bite the bullet and and remove the offending tiles to attach proper edging.

    Tile edging problem

The tiles in my bathroom were laid without edging at the ends so that the edge of the tile is exposed. I want to put some white plastic edging on these areas so that it looks a bit neater but all the tile edging I have seen so far seems to need to be laid before the tile. Does anyone know of any...

    Locating towel rail valves

Checked there but ended up buying from B&Q (I know, boo, hiss!). Thanks for the tip though.

    Locating towel rail valves

I'm looking for a pair of chrome towel rail valves and don't really know where to go for a good selection. I need them before saturday so online stores aren't an option. Does anyone know the name of any stores I can go to, especially those with branches in the Croydon area. Cheers

    Vinyl floor tiles question

I'm laying vinyl floor tiles in my bathroom. I'm going to lay a base of 15mm ply and then seal it with PVA. My question though, it is are these tiles likely to lift? I'm concerned that water and steam in the bathroom will get in the tiny gaps between the tiles and weaken the adhesive. I don't...

    Tiles, painting, and filling...

I should add that the vent is about 20cm x 20cm. If it can't be smoothed over what is the best way to fill the gap it will leave when I remove it?

    Tiles, painting, and filling...

OK, a few questions that I thought I'd ask in the same thread as I didn't want to clog up the board. I'm decorating the bathroom and need a bit of advice before I jump in feet first. 1. I've removed the lining paper from the walls, had some re-plastering done and made good the rest. So, I...

    woodchip on ceilings

I don't know whether it is just luck but I've started removing woodchip from the walls in my place and it is coming off really easy. It might be that it wasn't painted over that many times. I started picking at a loose corner and manged to remove about two-thirds of it without use of water or a...

    tiling over tiles!!?? how!!??

A pretty heated thread! It annoys me when people paint over light switches and radiator valves when a bit of masking tape can make the job look a bit better. The flat I've just bought is a slew of half-cocked DIY and easy option decorating which I now have to put right. This has meant some...

    Preparing a wall for painting

Cheers, I'll see if that can be done. I think I'd like a whole new surface to pain on. I was just going to get one wall done (the knackered wall) but I might as well get it all sorted while I have the chance (and the will!).

    Preparing a wall for painting

OK, no replies but an update anyway. Once I got the radiator off the wall the plaster and much of the board was crumbling. So I've decided to get new plasterboard put up on that wall and have it skimmed. I'm not sure whether or not I should just get the rest of the walls skimmed. Would the...

    Recommended builders/plasterers in Croydon

I need some plastering done and possbily new plasterboard put up. It's only a small job but there's no way I want to attempt it myself. Can anyone recommend a builder or plasterer in the Croydon area who will do this? If they are any good I'll probably use them again when I remove the...

    Preparing a wall for painting

I've just stripped down the walls and ceiling in my bathroom and now need to make good before I paint them. There are some minor imperfections as well as one or two cracks which I was just going to fill and then sand. Then I saw theis Polycell Smoothover that looks like it will give me a good...

    Extractor fan in bathroom

Thanks for that. I've only just moved in so I might wait to see how things work out during the winter before getting an extractor. I might not actually need one as the bathroom isn't at all damp.
