    long extension lead

Thanks b-a-s - it illustrates my point. Insulate the shed to get demand down to 2A (400W heater). Or spend £1k+. Or spend less on a genny. Or spend less on a shed closer to the house. Another comment is... - Do not run a genny in the shed (CO poisoning) - Do not run a LPG heater in a...

Bottom holes may not meet IP2x - Holes should not permit a >12.5mm sphere to enter Adaptable box has round-cable gland to flat-twin-&-earth (FTE) - that looks like FTE coming out of an Elkay round cable gland - it needs to be a (Pratley) FTE cable gland, TLC list them

Where does the black 6181Y go to? (stuck in the N bar) Very naked busbar. Reminds me to check on the MK insulated busbar part # & availability. MKs plastic busbar cover is a load of poo. On 4-way & 8-way they seem to angle-cut the slot so the cover is retained, on larger it is...

    Chasing Concrete

One thing to consider... - Is it cavity wall or solid? - Can the cavity wall be insulated? If you can't get CWI done, then now is the perfect time to board out the rooms with celotex/kingspan backed plasterboard. That makes wiring much easier (depth) - and the house will warm up very...

    Failed my LABC final inspection

Just noticed this was a Square-D (ie, Merlin Gerin / Schneider). There has been a recall of their RCBO. However I am not sure if it also includes RCD. It may be worth checking with Schneider's website or... - [email protected] - 01952 209544 Schneider do answer...

Niglon / Screwfix IP68 SWA Joint - lid does not require tool

Niglon make an IP68 SWA Joint box. It's a round polycarb drum with perimeter steel plate to bond the glands without using banjo or earthing/piranha nuts. 4 way entry, use as you need. Trouser type or H box (like the rare Pratley) would be better. Either my eyesight is going, or the lid is...

Replacement of immersion element - issue re tank

Thanks. She has had a rough time, looking after everyone else, and a case of no-one left to help her. No surviving relatives except for me, no surviving friends either bar one who is only contactable by telephone. If I get stuck, will post back :-)

Replacement of immersion element - issue re tank

Lazy... just about rebuilt the house for her and just flown in :-) I just lack the plumbing tools (never do any). However I will pick up a box spanner tomorrow. If no joy I will go through the plumbers. Looking through bes co uk I see lots of 16-18" diameter vented tanks, 900mm high...

Replacement of immersion element - issue re tank

Mother is in UK, Northwest :-) Indeed, I may end up having to do it myself. The difficulty is the box spanner - depends on whether it will budge or not, I assume it is tighten, loosen, tighten, loosen. Feel like interest rates... ... all the "old school" plumbers she knew from school...

    Kitchen Sockets Safety

From the photo - that is not acceptable. 1) MK rate their double sockets as 19.5A *continuous* Contractor defence: - Dishwasher and w/machine will not be heating water continuously Reality: - It only takes 24hrs (IIRC) at 22.5A for severe discolouration & aging - Appliance plugs are...

Is top entry by SWA CW into Masterseal acceptable?

Brick out & replaced, only took a few minutes, stuff moved. Amusingly, I did a search for pyro before posting :-) Pyro is still unmatched for being so discrete - it is not just the cable, but the clips - form follows function. Looks superb for outside lighting, no festooning, crisp bends...

Is top entry by SWA CW into Masterseal acceptable?

Thanks GaryMo... I'm going to change it to bottom entry. I was reluctant to change anything re aesthetics of the wall. However I have a spare matching brick and am going to cut one brick out & replace it, move the masterseal along to create space for bottom entry. The old SWA cleat holes...

Is top entry by SWA CW into Masterseal acceptable?

CMP say their glands are ok for top-entry if... - Shroud fitted & close-cut to cable sheath - Sealing washer between gland & enclosure I suggested adding an EPDM rubber disc further up the cable to prevent water tracking and they agreed that would be an excellent idea. Workable at least.

Is top entry by SWA CW into Masterseal acceptable?

Interesting. I'll ask CMP out of curiosity as to what they say re their CW glands. One alternative. Fit a "HV rain disc" around the cable higher up. So preventing water travelling along the cable & into the gland.
