    Slabs problem

Ian, I understand riven isn’t perfectly flat. That isn’t my issue if you had read my original post

    Slabs problem

Lonner, obviously I’ll be getting a different landscaper in to relay this patio. How on earth do I filter out the good from the bad, especially as the last guy came highly recommended! What would you recommend for the joints?

    FD hinge positions

I need to fit 3 x 4 inch FD hinges Is there a specific position reqd for building regs? I still can’t get hold of the building inspector and there doesn’t seem to be a specific reg when looking online, but I want to be sure. Also, I have 15 x 4mm smoke intumescent brush strips, self adhesive...

    Slabs problem

Sorry fox, forgot to ask what depth bed you would recommend? This was circa 30mm

    Slabs problem

Freddie, it doesn’t sound much, maybe it is more - it’s enough for me to catch the front of my toes/show on. And a nightmare with a 1 & 2 year old running. Anyway, I plan to get them relayed and from other advice above it’s not the issue that they are not perfectly calibrated, it’s seems to be...

    Slabs problem

Foxhole, was it laid on a bed? And what grout - I think we have easy grout? Was in a tub ready mixed quite pricey

    Slabs problem

Apologies that was my terminology calling it a screed, that’s just how it looked to me, the entire area was wet bed as you call it & he laid them on that. He didn’t dot & dab them on - is that what he should have done? I’ve had him back a few times, he said the problem is the slabs are...

    Slabs problem

Trying to upload but can’t seem to from my phone? I’ve measured one slab for example, one corner is 17mm the other is 23mm I’m trying to figure out is this a problem with how they’ve been laid or is it the slabs? Don’t know where to turn next. Can’t keep having my little ones constantly...

    Slabs problem

had a new patio laid with Indian sandstone Raj green. They are riven but apparently 22mm calibrated. Problem is, the little kids now constantly trip up on the corners because the slabs are not level with the next slab. Eg some edges are slightly thicker than the next edge. The guy who did it...

    Step out to patio

Thanks for the replies. That’s right Halitosis, we have been given the completion certificate for the extension. Although not sure when the patio was done! No mention in the paperwork. The current gravel trap is about 100mm wide so would be too big to leave empty. Maybe could drop an aco/linear...

    Step out to patio

That’s it, the patio is the same level as the house. No DPC exposed, just a french gravel drain. Then steps from the patio down to the grass (house & patio are elevated by 800mm+) My concerns are: Will the French drain/linear drain fail the DPC in the long term? It’s a cavity wall built 2...

    Step out to patio

Wow, very impressive job halitosis(!) Looks a million dollars. I’m the opposite way round, the house/patio is higher than the lawn. There is currently a French drain inbetween the house & patio, 100mm wide filled with gravel which is a pain. As well as the bifolds there is a standard door. The...

Retaining wall questions - sleeper design

I have something similar 800mm high. The sleepers I have are 200mm when lay on side, otherwise 100mm when lay flat. Think 2.4m long. 100x200x2400 Could you get a similar size then lay them horizontally, so that would 6 sleepers stacked (staggered joints) 6 @ 200mm = 1.2m, bolted through with HD...

    Step out to patio

Hi all, would a step from the house to the patio be okay at 3 courses below (approx 200mm)? The current patio is level with the house (as when we bought it) but the surveyors report recommended for it to be dropped down to at least 150mm below DPC. So I presume a drop of 150mm from the house to...

    28inch internal

Foxhole that would be perfect except the height - that is a 2040 but I need a 1981mm (78inch) sorry I should have mentioned the height reqd! Freddie I too thought it would be standard but i have been to Wickes, B&Q, Howdens and another local builders merchant they only stock 27inch then next...

    28inch internal

I’m looking for a 28inch (711mm) door; 4 panel with top 2 panels glazed, any idea where I can get this size? The others I’ve ordered are only available in 30 or 27 inch. I can’t alter the frame & obviously can’t shave 2 inches off a 30. Any suppliers that stock 28 please?

Retrofit Roof window - attic truss

So the wood that slopes down the roof/the rafters - they’re ok to cut so long as doubled up, and they don’t affect the structure of the truss if cut? I imagined it as a big triangle with a ceiling tie, none of which could be cut. I’m confused!!

Retrofit Roof window - attic truss

Thanks for the responses. Tic-tac- apologies I didn’t make it clear. It is a plastered ‘finished’ room with electrics, heating etc but only 1 tiny velux that isn’t possible to actually see out of. When we bought the house the seller said he had a new roof with attic trusses & he used it as a...
