    Picture of the week!

What's the age of that rose? I reckon it'll be from the 50's. Is the cable a new type that grows it's own insulation over the cpc. Although that colour not being to current standards

    Just suppose....

If that person has time to log on and post a distress call then surely they've time to dial 999. It must be quicker than trying to type fast.

    smoking ban

I believe if you as the owner/driver are the only person to use the van then you can smoke. If the van is used by more than one person then it's classified as a work place and smoking is banned.

    Cable identification question

Those particular panels didn't have a neutral feed, they just had 3Ph supply and then transformers for the lower voltages using the same colours for feed & return. There wasn't much 230V used, it was mostly 110V for the contactor coils & control equipment. And 24V for the PLC I/O If 230V was...

    Cable identification question

All the control panels we had installed with a new machine in 2000 had the following colours for the panel wiring: 380/415V - Black 230V - Orange 110V - Red 24V dc - Blue 4-20mA, 2-10V control signals - Violet I don't know if it's a standard or just the Italian manufacturers...

Spark123 Looks like a mercury arc rectifier. We had one back in the 80's fed from an 11,000/440 650Kva TX for a single dc drive motor. Sadly it's now gone. Ricicle It doesn't look that bad compared to other 3ph installs I've seen.

Yes please Pity I can't get past the security guard at the paper mill I was at, some of the stuff in there was dating back to the fifties. I could have got some good (history) pics.

Ahh proper lug connections  Couldn't beat the time spent on fitting those. Has that cable been close to it's ccc as it looks like some of the bitumen has dripped onto the yellow lug :?:

    Dead Goodmans NR2160pf TV

Funnily enough got the same TV and had the same fault, found it was the internal fuse that had blown (a T1.5A 5mm X 20mm). Changed the fuse and TV been Ok so far. The fuse is found at the back of the PCB behind a blue capacitor ringed in the photo.

    SwitchFuse or DP isolator

IMO I would fit a DP isolator, providing the cable has excess current protection at source. Otherwise you'd have to provide discrimination to the protective devices, ie 63A at source and 50A at the outbuilding.

    Ford Focus Cant Open Bonnet

Once suffered from a similar fate on a Ford, but it was with the central locking. Battery had gone on key fob so tried to unlock drivers door with the key, but it woudn't turn. Turns out that with Ford keys as you use it in the ignition the key wears down as well as the ignition barrel. But...

    Sky pin number

Yep SKY have been messing around with HD & Sky+ boxes. As well as some films requiring a PIN during the day they have also made it so that between 23:00 hours and 05:00 hours if your Sky box is not used for longer than 2 hours it will automatically go to standby  Imagine the scene...

    Water Heater Wiring

9.5Kw @ 230V = 41.3A So 6.00mm cable won't carry this load, it'll have to be 10.00mm all the way. And as RF has already said you'll need a deep box for the switch.
