SwitchFuse or DP isolator

If running an SWA (say 16.0mm²) to an outbuilding, would you protect it via a switchfuse (~63A) or a DP isolator in an enclosure?

Whats your preference, previously I've used the metal clad Wylex Switchfuses, but just wondering.

IMO I would fit a DP isolator, providing the cable has excess current protection at source. Otherwise you'd have to provide discrimination to the protective devices, ie 63A at source and 50A at the outbuilding.

You cannot feed your SWA direct from the DNO cutout. The service fuse is NOT there to protect your installation.

If you are supplying the SWA from the origin of the installation then you need to provide your own OCPD, with a switch fuse or similar

If you have a consistently high load then use a switchfuse. Otherwise you can use an MCB, but definitely not just a DP isolator; it has to be fused

When I say DP Isolator I mean such as a 63A Main Incomer type or am I missing something funamental here?

Yes, an isolator will not provide overload/fault protection. The current rating is just the maximum current the isolator can safely handle.
