    Pump speed

Thanks, I don't know if the boiler's noisy yet as I haven't fitted it. I don't want a lot of noise in the house and I'm trying to think of anything that might affect noise up front - including if fitting a different boiler might be quieter. I will have one non-thermostatic rad or towel rail so...

    Pump speed

If it is going to be more noisy, would a bigger bypass help?

    Pump speed

I'm installing a Halstead Ace high into a small house and, having done all the calcs, the pump pressure head vs flow rate is giving considerably more than is required and it is single speed, not adjustable. I know that the system will be balanced by turning down the lockshield valves so the...

    Long waste pipe

A plumber has said that a 5.7m run from the washing machine would be OK in 40mm waste without any anti syphon fitted although he'd recommend a slope of 1 in 40. Anyone else feel it would be OK in 40mm?

    Pipe size vs pressure loss

Does anyone have the pressure loss vs flow rate table for 10mm pipe that they can pass on? Information I have only goes down to 15mm. Thanks :D

    Long waste pipe

This is based on using a stand pipe on the washing machine trap. It comes as 440mm from the top of the pipe to the centre line of the waste outlet pipe. Do you think this could be reduced at all?

    Long waste pipe

Update - Having investigated and remeasured carefully and measured a recently aquired washing machine trap and pipe, I can do the 5.6m run if I connect to the stack 390 above the invert. Feeding into the stack above (small 2 bed cottage) is 1 toilet, 1 shower and 1 basin. Do you think this...

    Long waste pipe

I wish to run a waste pipe from a washing machine to the stack which is 5.7m away, with 2 elbows on the way. The limit is normally 3m but if I use an anti syphon unit at the washing machine end and 50mm pipe, can I take this up to 5.7m? The next problem is the height of the waste at the...

    Angle grinder wood cutting disks?

Thanks but I have similar thoughts to Handyman, anything less aggressive? :o

    Angle grinder wood cutting disks?

Are there any 115mm angle grinder disks that cut wood? There are a lot of timbers built into the property wall that need some notches cut through for various reasons and getting a hand saw in is difficult and energy sapping. Also all the old window frames to cut through and health probs mean I...

    Right-angle drill attachment

I used a very cheap right angle attachment to drill through joists using flat bits. Very slow, over heated - not good. I then found an old B&D power drill that was quite small and would fit between the joists and zip through them with the flat bit.

The wonders of owning an Angle Grinder

I got one of the £7 Kinzo 115mm grinders from SF as wasn't sure how useful it was going to be or what to look out for in a 'good' one but it has been invaluable. The switch is naff, even when new, eventually the switch overheated and failed but one short call to SF and they're sending a new one...

    Avoiding boiler noise

Thanks. Good to hear it's a relatively quiet boiler. When I was talking about boxing in, I meant dry lining the brick wall before mounting the boiler to make it even quieter through the wall but wasn't sure if this would work. What do you think? It will end up in a cupboard anyway to keep...

    Avoiding boiler noise

Halstead Ace High and it's a single brick wall. The boiler will effectively be in the second bedroom, either in the airing cupboard or boxed in as being discussed, but on the wall with the main bedroom bed the other side.
