    bill for job

I find that worrying - if dated Feb it should have been sent to you in Feb or is he going to start the "pay up now routine" claiming you have had the bill since Feb and it is over due. Keep everything in writing as far as correspondance with him is concerened just in case you need it later on.

    TV upstairs

Depends on how strong the signal is in your area. If you have an indoor aerial, plug it in and try it. If not, you could always buy one and if it doesn't work, return it - cheeky but been done before. Best bet is to split the signal from the aerial with a proper distribution amp and run feeds...

    Sky and RF output

Yes it is. Just because it is not sent over the air waves does not mean it is not broadcasted. All broadcast means is that it is a signal sent to many people. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/broadcasting It just gets confusing as it is referred to as being "on air" - a hang up from the...

    Connecting Loft Tv Amplifier Power

Surely this will be protected by the fuse/ mcb supplying the lighting circuit. A label would help so that large loads aren't plugged in, but this would just trip the lighting circuit wouldn't it - assuming that a)appropriately rated cable is used to connect the socket to the lighting circuit and...

    TV Attenuators

As I understand it, normally a TV ariel installer will have an (expensive) meter that tells him/ her the signal level for a given frequency/ frequencies. They may also use local knowledge. edit - things like these http://www.swires.com/

    TV Attenuators

Too much signal will cause problems by overwhelming the reciever. Most noticible if you live near a transmitter. An attenuator will solve this (if you know how much to attenuate it by or get a variable attenuator).

signal strength vs signal quality ( sky ) ?

Sounds like it needs re aligning. Signal quality is the be all and end all. Also checj for damage to the LNB and cable as other possibilities.

    Aerial

AFAIK you do not need the terrestrial aerial plugged in as all those channels are provided for via free sat http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=whatson.Main You may need to reset the box and/or check the alignment of the dish - check for signal quality in the setup menu.

    Headphones?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/united-mileage-plus/740123-headphone-jacks-boeing-777-a.html suggests that the airline decides what connections are used. Emirates certainly used std. mini jacks...

    Headphones?

last time I was in a 777 it was normal minijacks. £10 to £20 for headphones is too cheap. Proper noise cancelling ones - Sennheiser, Bose et al come in around £100 and upwards. If not noise cancelling then def. use closed cans which enclose the ears totally or the in ear ones with custom...

    TV Reception Problems

replace cable with ct100 or better (usually advertised as satellite cable). Esp. the cable from the aerial if this is unshielded. Get a good quality splitter (not passive) to split the signal.

    Aerial

Can you explain a bit more. For reference - a dish can only supply a sat. decoder not a normal freeview box. It could go Dish to Sky box. Sky box RF out to 2nd TV - this will enable the 2nd TV to see whatever is on the sky box or it could go: Dish to Sky box and separate terrestrial...

    outlet socket all wrong

Sorry BAS, just living under the impression that this was the norm. for lighting T & E for installs. Only ever see white flex, not T & E. Of course, I know I am about to be proved wrong :)

    outlet socket all wrong

Surely it should be grey T & E? They didn't look very hard then? :) Phew You never mentioned the Earth (cpc) before. What certificates were you given and what test results. It is a major job to install a CU and must be notified via the appropriate channels to the LABC. Others...

    outlet socket all wrong

Not much of a problem as far as bangs are concerned as polarity doesn't matter, operationally, on most domestic kit (if not all domestic kit). It does matter if (as is usual in the UK) any isolating switch on the appliance is single pole. If you had a new CU put in, shouldn't this fault...

    Good old B&Q

Surely in this harmonized world phase is brown and neutral blue on T & E? edit - oops just saw RFs comment under the pic. I'll get my coat.

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

Isolating transformers and DI boxes are different to mains conditioners and work on the audio signal not the mains feed to the laptop. To be honest, if it is hard drive noise then an external card is the most likely fix. Speak to IT and bget them to provide it :) (Good luck)

Removing earth from a laptop PSU - how dangerous?

Isolating transformers or DI boxes - cheap ones such as Behringer or more expensive - interspace industries - http://www.interspaceind.com/products/product.php?id=7 should work. Another option will be an external sound card. Shouldn't remove earth for obvious safety reasons.

    Wireless Problem !

Hi. Did you solve your problem? Just thought I should mention that on my Belkin router, hitting the reset button just restarts the router. If you want to reset the router to factory settings you can do that from the setup page (192.168.2.1). You can also do a factory reset with the reset button...

infra red TV eye not working

Quick question - how many TV eyes can the sky box power - you say you have 4 plugged in? Could you try unplugging the others and using this on its own? On non sky installed equipment. Maybe but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
