Check the overheat stat if it has one fitted, it is usually on the right hand side of the control box just to the right of the boiler control thermostat knob. If that isnt the problem then it is most likely going to be a thermocouple or gas valve problem and you will need to get a RGI in.

Appropriate fixings will take the weight, as long as no boisterous children try to use it as a ladder / climbing frame etc. but if unsure then some battens would be a solid fixing. I would use the fixings that expand with a gun on that type of wall, see...
